I owned a few Stones albums when I was much younger, and remember Monkey Man, and that great bass line, played by Keith, as I understand.  The albums Let It Bleed and Beggar's Banquet were my favorites.

Compilation Produced by Prof. Stoned

Prof. sez: This compilation collects almost all stereo tracks that are known to exist from this period, with the exception of the complete Aftermath album. I have used the Bob Ludwig remasters for nearly all the Chess stuff because I think he nailed those tracks. The only flaw on these is a tape startup problem on 04, 06 and 07, which I have cleaned up. The Chess mono mixes were designed as fold-downs of the stereo versions and are, without a doubt, best heard in stereo. The RCA recordings are not exactly known for their fidelity, but they do have a certain charm. I'm quite pleased with how this turned out; it adds something to the familiar standard versions.

Transfer and Restoration by Prof. Stoned

Prof. sez: These are rough mixes of the basic tracks of the released versions (i.e. various overdubs that were added later are not heard here). They first appeared in the 1970 documentary Gimme Shelter. My best guess is these mixes were made after the sessions in Muscle Shoals in late 1969 and pressed to acetate for reviewing purposes. Allen Klein probably owned a copy of one of these acetates, and handled it it over for use on a compilation album London was about to release, in case the Stones weren't gonna give up the finished masters. Klein had negotiated to share the rights to these two tracks with the Stones as part of a settlement between the two parties. So, when Hot Rocks came out in December 1971, some pressing contained the rough mixes by mistake. This pressing was quickly corrected and the tracks were never released in this form again.
