Parts of New Zealand are going to see another sunny summer's day on Saturday, with temperatures expected to crack 30 degrees Celsius (86ºF).
Met Service meteorologist Rob Kerr said an active front is moving up the country, bringing heat, showers and wind to some areas.
Parts of the upper North Island can expect to see temperatures ranging from the mid-20s to about 30C on Saturday.
Beachgoers especially in the Kaikoura, Kerikeri, and Gisbourne regions, will see that heat and sunshine, with 30C forecast.
"It's going to be pretty warm despite the cloud," Kerr said.
During the past week, temperatures in many parts of Australia have climbed above 45C (113ºF), in some places getting close to 50C (122ºF).
Although New Zealand was already getting hot days before the Australian heat wave, Kerr said there was a slight link between the weather in Australia and what we can expect to see here.
Sea surface temperatures around New Zealand are also warmer than usual, which plays a part, he said.
Temperatures ranging from the mid to high 20s (60sF) can be expected for the eastern and southern parts of the South Island, including Christchurch and Ashburton. While the West Coast can expect slightly cooler weather around the 20C (68ºF) mark.
Wellingtonians can expect slightly cooler weather at about 22C (71ºF) with wind forecast. It should be a nice day in Whanganui, reaching about 27C (80ºF).
Aucklanders can expect temperatures of around 25C (77ºF), with some cloudy periods forecast.
The active front, which is preceded by a strong and very moist northwest flow, will move up the South Island on Saturday, and be followed by very strong and showery west to southwest flow.
The front was expected to move over the North Island on Sunday and weaken.
