There are regulations when it comes to posting nudity online - if the server Zappa.com is on won't allow for its users to post pornographic content (the web host is liable and could be sued for content put on any of its sites). It's possible they could've had a complaint, in which case deleting is the only option to prevent a swift removal of zappa.com altogether.

Zijlstra got the chop, hurray hurray!

Are you paying attention USA? This is how a democracy deals with politicians who lie to the extent that it damages international relations.

Sites can go round posting stuff for ages until somebody compains to the webhost, then it's a cease and desist order. Do you think Yahoo checks every single site all the time for illegal activities?

We had similar issues with the Goose theatre. I was personally against it, but DED wanted to publish some Dutch films with English subtitles, so they could only be viewed by Goose members. It was there for years but then GoDaddy mailed us: we had to take the films down immediately.

Metallica wins the 2018 Polar Music Prize (the Music Nobel)

"The 2018 Polar Music Prize is awarded to the American band Metallica.
Not since Wagner’s emotional turmoil and Tchaikovsky’s cannons has anyone created music that is so physical and furious, and yet still so accessible. Through virtuoso ensemble playing and its use of extremely accelerated tempos, Metallica has taken rock music to places it had never been before. In Metallica’s world, both a teenage bedroom and a concert hall can be transformed into a Valhalla. The strength of the band’s uncompromising albums has helped millions of listeners to transform their sense of alienation into a superpower."

Personnaly I had no use for the band....

It was one of my entries into music so, even though I am not big on them currently and have not been for a while, kudos for them, I still revisit some old albums from time to time, Try Master of Puppets. Ciff Burton is great, and so is his piece Orion.

Mmm hmm. If someone plans to pdf this for doc circulation, please insert a space " " between the "+" and "1". I can't believe I forgot. Final output should form "+ 1" for clarity between operator and operand. If only I could go back in time.

I don't hate Metallica because I haven't heard them, rather the other way around! ;)

It took under 5 minutes to grow an intense dislike to Metallica.

Grammar police eh? Well, because I was a teenager in the late seventies, and in the early eighties, when FZ was putting out an album every other month (i exaggerate sometimes), and lot's of people were really into Metallica and AC/DC. I HAD no use for that band. It goes without saying that I still HAVE no use for that band, probably because I possess "At the Mountains of Madness" in my record collection and that particular album blows any metal band to pieces.

HOWEVER !

Maximum respect for that band for getting the Polar Music Prize. Bravo!

Samba shut up the voice of big corporate media in Brazil...

Starring role! Rio carnival dancers sparkle at samba parade as 72,000 spectators watch 'greatest show on Earth' in sweltering heat

Rio de Janeiro came alive on Sunday night as the Brazilian city's famous carnival hit its peak with huge parade
Thousands of dancers wearing colourful and outlandish costumes performed to pounding samba anthems
Two-night extravaganza began in city's Sambodromo, where 72,000 spectators sat in roasting conditions

It is dubbed the 'greatest show on Earth' with thousands of sparkling Brazilian dancers ignoring sweltering heat to put on a spectacular samba parade.

Rio de Janeiro came alive on Sunday night as the city's carnival hit its peak in a stunning cocktail of glamour, eccentric costumes and pounding samba anthems.

The two-night extravaganza began in the Sambodromo, where 72,000 spectators sat in roasting conditions, with many thousands more milling around outside selling drinks, putting on colourful outfits or simply soaking up the atmosphere because they were unable to get tickets.

But amid the feather headdresses, sparkly G-strings and dancers dressed as everything from trees to Chinese merchants, serious politics marked this year's parades.

One reveller dressed up as Dracula to represent Brazilian President Michel Temer while a giant backside mocked Rio de Janeiro's mayor during the unusually politicised event.

Latin America's biggest country is only just emerging from its worst recession on record. Violent crime in cities like Rio is rocketing, and politics is riddled with corruption and lack of leadership ahead of October presidential elections.

Rio kicks off Carnival parade with anti-establishment tone

IO DE JANEIRO (AP) — There are some Brazilians who probably aren't finding much to enjoy in Rio de Janeiro's colorful Carnival parades — the mayor, the governor and the president.

An anti-establishment tone is echoing through this year's celebrations in Brazil. And Sunday night's parade at Rio's Sambadrome featured entries that blasted the country's political leadership at a moment of economic slump and political scandal.

President Michel Temer, Rio de Janeiro state Gov. Luiz Fernando Pezao and Rio Mayor Marcelo Crivella were expected to skip the two-day bash at the Sambadrome. The samba parades used to be a magnet for politicians before a sprawling corruption investigation around state-run oil giant Petrobras began in 2014. Now officeholders fear being booed and even attacked by critics during the party.

Temer, whose popularity is in single digits, spent his last Carnival as president with a group of 40 people on a military-guarded beach south of Rio. Earlier a few hundred revelers in the capital of Brasilia organized a street party to make fun of his recent poor health and his unpopular pension overhaul.(...)
