With or with out the Hologram that is a killer line-up...

With that line-up, it'll be well worth checking out in my opinion. I always thought the ZPZ project should have been an "alumni" oriented affair from the get-go. Granted, the musicians DZ put together were/are competent players. I guess there will always be two camps in this....those who see it as a cheesy gimmick, and those who will dig it.

I'm curious enough to check it out based on who they have onboard. If it works, hopefully the other alumni who either backed-out of being a part of it and those who who haven't been mentioned that still tour (Denny, Ike, Adrian, Chad, Fowler Bros, Ruth ect) will join in.

It seems a risky proposition if it ends up being lame, so expectations will be very high.

As long as they keep releasing sets like Halloween '77 and the Roxy box, I'm in.

Frank Zappa Hologram Goes on Bizarre World Tour

Frank Zappa will be joining Mothers of Invention on their Bizarre World tour as a hologram

It looks like we're inching nearer and nearer to immortality every day.

According to a recent Rolling Stone article, Frank Zappa will be joining Mothers of Invention on their Bizarre World tour ... as a hologram.

The tour is slated to kick off later this year and will feature guitarists Ray White and Mike Keneally, bassist Scott Thunes, multi-instrumentalist Robert Martin and drummer Joe Travers as the core touring band, in addition to special appearances by Steve Vai, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Ian Underwood and more.

Fear not if you think it would be against the late avant-garde guitar virtuoso wishes, because according to his son and Zappa Family Trust co-trustee Ahmet Zappa, Frank would be all about it.

"'As a futurist, and hologram enthusiast, Frank fearlessly broke through boundary after boundary as an artist and in honoring his indomitable spirit we're about to do it again, 25 years after his passing,'" Ahmet said. "'On a personal note, I feel like I am finishing something my father started years ago.'"

While he might not be the first musician to achieve holographic immortality, it's safe to say he's the first San Diegan who has. Frank lived everywhere from East County to the beach, having attended both Grossmont High School and also Mission Bay High School. It's just a good thing he was expelled from the latter for his shenanigans.

Hmm...let's see if I understand this? There's a hologram of FZ onstage. Does it play pre-recorded guitar solos
and a live band backs that? Or is this hologram thingy just there and doesn't do anything, while a live band
plays? Whatever it is, I'm going to skip this.

If I go , venue and ticket price pending, I'll just park myself in front of Thunes and watch the chops fly

The Orange County Lumber Truck has it right... ...I'm no Hologram advocate but I just don't get the resistance to seeing our favorite musicians on stage together again, what ever it takes to get them there...great, if the hologram rocks...great... :?

According to someone on Prog Ears, there really is a "Celebrating David Bowie" tour in the works for next year, with Adrian named as a participant. I didn't see anything about a hologram Bowie, though.

http://www.celebratingdavidbowie.com

Just checked this website out again and Adrian is no longer named as one of the participants.

He just came off the Cruise To The Edge (with his Power Trio); next he has dates with Gizmodrome (March/April). But he did do the Bowie thing in January.

Yeah, when I bought tix for Chicago, I thought AB would be part of the show. Then in December I noticed that they added an asterisk next to his name saying European leg only. Now, there are no more European shows, so he's removed altogether.

I’m glad I didn’t bite on this one. The show I would have gone to is coming up soon. Adrian was the biggest reason I would have gone. I was also interested in Angelo Moore’s contribution and he’s also no longer listed.

Photon Frank. And his groupies, will they too be holographic. This is a rhetorical question and I don't want an answer.

Yeah, in hindsight I wouldn't have gotten tix. There were several good tunes and several cringe-worthy ones. Interesting that they did a mellow Heroes. Still, it was my Birthday and we went with friends, so we had fun. I thought the crowd would've been more wild, but it was mostly old n sedate.

That's why he built that vault and saved everything he every recorded and every interview, etc. Yes I know he said that, but he was quite the contrarian, even with himself.

Hologram Decisions
You are a family kinda guy
You need alumni to make it fly
And the hologram decision that you make today
Will mean nothing later on
When the vid's on Ebay

That's good. Look FZ right in the eye.

That’s ok, Downer. I know technology is sometimes scary to old people. I’m sure the first time someone saw a photograph of a human being back in the 1800’s it kind of freaked them out too.

If FZ's hologram looks as bad as the Dio one, this will be horrific as fuck.

Billy did you see the Dio show live or did you determine this from a video?

Often what you see live doesn't come across accurately in video or pictures.

Also I have to believe this technology is continually improving in leaps and bonds as other technology is...
