^^^Thank you, Bill. I appreciate FZ fans with a sense of humor. You'd be surprised how many don't have one.

You're welcome.
BTW, I'm not surprised by how seriously some folks take Zappa -
I used to amuse myself on usenet group alt.fan.frank-zappa posting fake album announcement press releases.

Go Cal!

This will be either the best shit ever or the worst shit ever. Anyone want to take bets?

Holy shit! The hologram is walking down the aisle! Now it's singing to me and me only! This is just like the musical: Cats!

How about a re-creation of the guy selling t-shirts at the start of the '76 Detroit concert ("That pisses me off!"), holographic scalpers in the parking lot.

The "The Is Spinal Tap" Stonehenge possibilities are there.

"So, remind me again,Did you want the hologram to be 6 inches small, 6 ft tall or 60 ft tall? Whoopsie! Sorry 'bout that..."

A 60 foot tall FZ reaching into the audience and digitally slapping some sense into AZ, I'd pay to see that.....

After thinking about this for a day or so now, the only way I'd consider it legit and think about attending is if Ahmet talked Keneally/Beller/Travers into being the core band w/ whoever wants to show up as far as alumni if they can hack it. All musical decisions would be up to MK/Bryan/Joe, and NOT Ahmet. Beer For Dolphins would open each show with an hour set.

It would be a good way for MK to get his music out to the mainstream. The FZ hologram would have to be very subdued and not be the main feature stealing the show. Like just let the hologram out for a few of the "big hits with a bullet", and nothing more. But we all know it would never happen that way.

Arthur Barrow from his Facebook page a few hours ago.

"My, my, what a fuss over a hologram! My position is simple: Ahmet asked me if I wanted to play some FZ music, and of course I said yes, esp. with Vinnie on drums. If Dweezil ever asks me to play some music with him, I would say yes to that too. And that's all I have to say about that. Now on to more important things!"

Adrian Belew today on Facebook:

I think of Frank Zappa as my mentor. I realize I can never repay him for the opportunities he gave me. to be honest I played a very minor role in the Zappa universe and have always felt I get more credit than I deserve.

still, I jump at any chance I can to praise and honor Frank. so when one of his sons calls me to explain a possible concert series 18 months in the future, I am willing to listen.

in our brief conversation Ahmet explained the holographic concept and asked if it was something I might consider being part of. it didn't occur to me that Frank's fans might find it distasteful. admittedly I didn't think that part through.

I told Ahmet if I felt strongly it would be a great way to celebrate Frank's music, yes, I would consider being part of it. he asked permission to use my name in the announcement and I gave him permission.

They should only do the hologram from the Garrick Theater days. Just the part where Frank stares and scowls at the audience for 90mins.

Adrian Belew on Facebook 2 hours ago:

if you ask a girl to marry you and she says, "I will consider it" she DID NOT say YES. in fact she only said she will think about it.

And one hour ago:

here are my final thoughts on the entire Zappa affair: respectfully count me out.
I will not be playing Zappa music in the foreseeable future in any situation.
this whole thing is far too caustic and divisive.

I will say I have always admired Dweezil for playing his father's music and playing it so damn perfectly. I remember time spent with young Moon and how much I really liked her. recently I met Diva for the first time (she works on Billy Bob Thornton's tour) and she was very nice to me. though I have yet to meet Ahmet in person, he too has been nice to me. earlier this year he asked me to write liner notes for the upcoming Zappa Halloween box set and he treated me respectfully.

I do know one thing: Frank loved his family.

I have many positive creative things to do. I hope you all will enjoy them. none of them will have anything to do with the current Zappa universe, but I will always revere and love Frank.

Besides, the David Bowie hologram tour made him a much better offer.

Guys... As shocking as the sibling fight is and as horrible as the hologram idea is, if there's one thing I can count on it's the true Zappa fans to put a smile on my face! :)

Don't feel bad. A partial smile is better than no smile at all.

Oh, I used "true Zappa fans" as opposed to the "so-called Zappa-fans" TM tends to call us, no harm was intended at all...
