Location: Chicago, sort of.
I saw them a couple of days ago in Chicago. They had lots of tech problems: D's guitar kept cutting out, and something was bad with the bass players amp. The audience could hear it thru the mains, but not the band onstage. It took them half an hour to get it all straightened out, ruining a couple of songs along the way. After that, the band settled in, but D didn't, I think. His solos were uninspiring and he dropped out a couple of times on the hard parts of some songs, jumping back in later. I feel for him though; this music ain't easy and a player must be functioning really well to pull it off, not pissed off and distracted.

The band played well overall, sort of picking up Dweezil, and it worked mostly. The drummer fucked up a couple of times, as did the bass player. And Chris just isn't a great soloist, but he only gets a couple anyway. Sheila plays with such ease and her overall performance is a step above the rest of the band. D's lucky to still have her.

Biggest complaint: In Chicago, Dweezil's playing smaller, crappier venues every year. Pretty soon he'll be booking the band into some dude's basement to save a buck.

So, a mixed review. Highlights? Grand Wazoo and Sinister Footwear. And the older material.

I bet the basement sounds better than the Royal Oak Music Theater :P
