What do you Ween fans recommend for my listening enjoyment?

My first foray into the Ween catalog. Maybe not the best choice but it is still a fun album. Features a terrific song about a relationship breaking up.Hit the fuckin' road and piss up a rope. I'd say that's much better than Lyin' Eyes by the Eagles.

I like Painting The Town Brown live double CD aka WCDTOSALTDIT90S (Ween Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Like They Did In the 90s)...

Okay, I made that last bit up, but just like YCDTOSA, Painting The Town Brown is a great collection of live tracks from different shows/years 8)

I prefer Ween after they started touring with a full band, so for me any studio release starting with Chocolate and Cheese. Live in Chicago is a good too. Shinola Vol. 1 (sort of an odds and sods out takes album) is highly entertaining IMO. I even like La Cucaracha a lot even though some people think this was a let down.

I'd suggest The Mollusk for a Zappa fan.

Dean Ween Shares Audio Featuring The ‘Best Ween Show Of All-Time’

https://www.jambase.com/article/dean-ween-1990-best-ween-show-basel

Early Ween 1991

Ween guitarist Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo celebrated his birthday earlier this week by giving fans a present. Deaner uploaded audio of a Ween performance from 1990 he considers “the best Ween show of all-time.” The amazing recording is this week’s Full Show Friday selection and can be streamed below or downloaded via the Internet Archive.

Melciondo and Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman toured Europe in support of their debut album GodWeenSatan: The Oneness from September 1990 through March 1991. “We lived in our tour manager’s apartment (Rene De Wever) in Eindhoven, Holland for 6 MONTHS and would jump off to other countries in his Renault Le Car with our tape deck and play gigs for gas and shelter, the three of us,” Mickey explained in a note accompanying the upload.

The audio is from a gig that took place in Basel, Switzerland. Deaner said no one was in attendance when the show started and only five people wound up checking out the concert. Ween mixed material from GodWeenSatan with songs that would be released on future albums as well as covers of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and Cat Stevens’ “Where Do The Children Play.” Read the full note from Melchiondo and then stream the audio:

ween—basel, ch — So……if you think you’re down with the brown….old school……this is the reality of Brown. We rolled into Basel Switzerland while promoting our first album by touring Europe from September of 1990 to March of 1991. We lived in our tour manager’s apartment (Rene De Wever) in Eindhoven, Holland for 6 MONTHS and would jump off to other countries in his Renault Le Car with our tape deck and play gigs for gas and shelter, the three of us. This is us in Basel, Switzerland in front of NO PEOPLE (except Rene), until the end of the gig when we had 5 people. Our sound guy was named Pidah, and this is the best Ween show of all time. On my birthday I GIVE IT TO YOU. I’ve submitted this for consideration as a live Ween record and no one has ever gotten back to me — so here it is…………..I humbly lay this at your feet………listen up and learn what Brown can do for you…..this is pure Ween……..

Ween Performs ‘The Mollusk’ In Its Entirety In 2017

Yesterday, Riot Fest announced its initial 2019 lineup. Notably, the festival — which is scheduled from September 13 – 15 at Chicago’s Douglas Park — announced that Ween would serve as one of its headliners, marking the Pennsylvania-based act’s first confirmed appearance of 2019.

This year, Riot Fest has a number of artists tapped to play full albums in their entirety, such as The Flaming Lips performing Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots and Bloc Party performing Silent Alarm. For Ween’s set, the group has been tasked with re-creating their fan-favorite 1997 album The Mollusk. However, the group is no stranger to performing the 14-track album in full, as they formerly offered a complete rendition of the LP back in 2017 in celebration of the record’s 20th anniversary.

On July 1, 2017, Ween performed The Mollusk to open their show at Bend, Oregon’s Les Schwab Amphitheater. While many of the songs have been standard fare for their live shows in the past, the recreation also spurred the bust outs of two rarely performed tunes. First, “It’s Gonna Be (Alright)” was offered up after “The Blarney Stone,” marking the track’s first performance since May 17, 1998, during a set at the Ogden Theatre in Denver. The number was followed by “The Golden Eel” and the second major bust out of the night, “Cold Blows The Wind.” The latter number was performed for the first time since August 4, 2003.

Following the performance of The Mollusk, Ween made use of the rest of their one-set show by filling in fan-favorites from the rest of their wide-spanning catalog. After The Mollusk‘s album closer “She Wanted To Leave,” the band offered up takes on classics like “Boys Club,” “Bananas and Blow,” “Roses Are Free,” “Pork Roll Egg and Cheese,” “The Stallion, Part 1” and more.

To preview Ween’s upcoming performance of The Mollusk at Riot Fest 2019, here’s audio of the July 1, 2017 show for this week’s Throwback Thursday. Stream the audio, which was captured by Shutup & DANce, below:

Ween will return home to the Northeast for a pair of December 2019 tour dates. The New Hope, Pennsylvania-birthed band confirmed concerts in Boston and Philadelphia.

The quintet will play the House Of Blues in Boston on December 13, marking their first performance at the venue since 2016. Next up for Ween is a show at The Met in Philadelphia on December 14, exactly one year to the day after the band made their venue debut. Ween played their first set of the year on Sunday at Riot Fest in Chicago and only have an appearance at Desert Daze and a three-night stand at Denver’s Mission Ballroom on the books besides the shows announced today.

A Ween Ticketing pre-sale starts on Wednesday, September 18 at 10 a.m. ET. Tickets go on sale to the general public this Friday, September 20 at 10 a.m. ET.

^^Those guys have aged quite differently. Dean looks pretty much the same as he did twenty years ago. Gene not so much.
