I don't understand your reply, which did not answer my original question which was "What instrument do you play?"
I would expect a reply like "guitar", "keyboards", "drums", etc. That would help me address YOUR original point about "A# - no way!".
So here's deal:
I'll assume (for this discussion) you play guitar and did not know that your instrument was pitched in the key of C, and that you did not know that trumpets (IN THIS CASE and for the purpose of this discussion) are pitched in Bb. In order for a trumpet player (or tenor sax) to read and play the music in the same pitch as a guitar or keyboard, the music must be transposed a whole step higher. So "I'm The Slime" to which you referred is written in the key of "A" for guitar & keys. Trumpet, sax and bone therefore play in the key of B (a shitty key for sure, but that's not my fault) which renders all A's sharp (A#).
So, to further examine your question, there are several A#'s in the trumpet, sax parts. Which one bothers you? I will assume it's the one 5 measure's before the verse, since that is a legitimate observation/ complaint and one I did go over several times prior to publishing the chart. Each chart is recorded as a midi file which I played back and matched up to the original recording (I could email these midi files to you).
I think I was up front about the fact that I did plan to use the Hal Leornard books (which are GUITAR focused) as a guide for a lot of these charts, but I also mentioned previously that there were several errors in all the HL books and I corrected those errors, or at least tried to. There may be a couple I missed, but that's what YOU all are there for, my friends - to proof read this stuff. Frank didn't publish his music so we have to transcribe it. The guys did a great job with the guitar parts.
But I didn't just use the HL books. I played the parts on my instrument, used midi playback, used a keyboard, used other software to the isolate each part.
Now, if you find something truely incorrect, it will gladly be fixed in a matter of minutes. In conclusion, Zappa wrote those intervals that way - he has E natural, G# and A natural (on the master chart in C) which translates to F#, A# and B natural on a Bb trumpet.
The ultimate goal would be to have an accurate full score for each of FZ's compositions. I plan on doing this in the near future and I am open to offers of collaboration.
