It's like fleecing tourists. It's too easy.

One thing is certain, whoever pays that much for Zappa's guitar won't ever play anything worthwhile with it.

Buying stuff FZ willed to his son is a "fuck you" to Frank Zappa. Someone should buy it and give it to DZ.

Yeah well: most guitars never have anything worthwhile played on them by anyone. This one just happened to be lucky...

I promise if I buy the guitar I will only play beautiful music on it which I will dedicate lovingly to FZ. I will then will it back to Dweezil (unless my dumb kids sell it first).

Good point.

Really? Because that would actually mean something.

Not that I think the playing has to be beautiful. Just play it so good that no one will mind it was stolen out from under DZ. If, in fact, it was.

Or are you giving me shit because you think I'm lame for suggesting that Zappa's guitars should go where he willed them? I mean, if he willed a guitar to DZ and DZ wants to sell it, I certainly would not have anything negative to say about it. However, if he willed a guitar to DZ and someone else auctions it off against DZ's wishes, well, how is that respectable? It's pathetic and deserving of my contempt. Seems like thievery. Plus, I feel the same way FZ felt about rabid consumers/fanboys. They are idiotic. They erode the quality of life.

An interesting piece of information by one tbozzio over another freak site that shall go nameless:

Quote:
"An early 1980s Sony 24-track digital audio recorder, model PCM-3324, that Frank Zappa used to record his first digital recordings and was later linked to his other recorder to give him 48 tracks." - This went for a measly $500.

From a materialistic point of view, possibly, not if it still works perfectly, though. I will not mention its historic, immaterial value...

I will mention it's historical monetary value: 0

And as a piece of equipment it's outdated crap.

Eh, it just got sold for U$ 500.00

500 > 0

If I was interested in making money out of it, I could invest U$ 500,00 and market if for U$ 1.000,00-1,500.00 and be sure someone would be interested in owning it for that price. It would, otherwise, be neat in a Zappa exposition, museum or musical education facility...

There's something morally wrong going on here.

Who sells their father's guitar(s) knowing full well they had been gifted by your FATHER to your B R O T H E R ?

This raises an interesting question. If FZ in the last phase of his life gifted them all, or a significantly large amount, to Dweezil, by Dutch law it could be argued that it's still inheritance and they need to be dispersed evenly among the kids. Dutch law at least. I'd imagine US law has similar conventions since giving one of your children thousands of dollars in money or items of high value and giving the other ones squat is at least equally morally wrong.

That thought occurred to me as well, BBP. Though I don't question FZ's moral character in this issue. I imagine he wanted to give his only guitar playing offspring his guitars. It could raise questions though in the settling of an estate as those guitars could be quite valuable considering their historical significance.

I suspect a bunch of the furniture and objet d'art was acquired after FZ left the building....

If it has historical value put it in a place where it can be valued by all for it's history.

I don't think we should allow historical value to be translated into monetary value. They're two very different things.

If someone would pay thousands for an item just because FZ once owned it, knowing that FZ had contempt for fanboys who would do such things, I'd have to say that individual is full of shit. And knowing FZ has contempt for fanboys why would someone be an FZ fanboy? It's like, Zappa thinks you're a creep but you love him so much you don't care what he would think. Huh?

But didn't Gail leave Diva and Ahmet a bigger chunk of control over the zft?

At this point I think we'd be doing the kids a favor if we just ignored them.

Maybe you need some therapy, amigo  You worry too much what Zappa would think or do. There is a market for this shit. Period.

Did they keep anything? (Besides their share in the bizness?)

Apparently not. There's another round to the auction.

There's something poignant about that conjoined DZ and AZ Z-shirt on sale. Same goes for the Dweezil teaglass in one of the lots.
