You want uncrowded surf? You want pristine beaches? You want lots of sea life? You want picturesque coastal drives? You want Big Sur.

^We used to call it 'Ray Bay' because the warm water would attract stingrays.

Seal Beach pier again. Had to post this one.
Image

It's smaller than HB pier. And it still has the old school wooden rails and pilings.

Santa Barbara Harbor is home to the infamous Sandspit surf spot. Ocean swells slam into the breakwall and then peel into the harbor entrance. It's a perfect, hollow right-hand drainer.......dude! 8)

Newport Beach north of the pier and south of the Santa Ana River mouth from 36th street to 56th street there are a series of rock groins that produce some powerful well shaped left tubes during a south swell.

Thanks....I'd argue that it's a more exciting state than what people think, but just having had to drive across the whole state and back, I don't think I will.

The City of Corning, known as the “Olive Capital”, is located 110 miles north of Sacramento in the fertile valley of Northern California right off Interstate 5. An agriculturally-based community with “small town” charm, Corning is
home to the largest olive processing plant in the United States as well as award winning olive oil producers and olive product retailers. Though olives are our main crop, other area crops are walnuts, almonds, prunes and figs. We are 5 miles from the Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area at the Sacramento River and 1 ½ hours to Lassen Volcanic National Park. Corning has three excellent travel centers, many first-class motels, RV accommodations, and the Rolling Hills Casino and Resort including golf course and hunt club making Corning an ideal destination for West Coast travelers.

Thanks for giving a little love to the north state, Bravo. Most of California is not the stereotype of Southern California beaches and surfers. I grew up and continue to live close to Corning. My father was an olive grower in the area (Oroville and Honcut). It was a good upbringing as I learned about responsibility and hard work at a young age working for my Dad not only in the olive orchards (irrigation, pruning, harvesting, etc.) but living in a rural setting and having regular chores growing up on a ranch. KK thinks there's just a bunch of rednecks around here (and there is some of that) but it's a nice place to live relatively free of crime and the other problems that go with living in more populated areas. For culture, Chico is a college town so we get a share of decent entertainment, the Sierra Nevada Brewery, several casinos, and we're just 90 minutes from Sacramento, 3 hrs to the Bay Area, 3 & 1/2 hrs to Reno/Tahoe, and probably four hours to California's north coast and redwoods. I wouldn't trade this for living in So Cal for anything.
