Thanks everybody! Looks like those vibes are working. Talked to Maps last night, and things are going well all things considered. There was no insurance on the house. And it was so old, that repairing it would cost way more than the house is worth. They are staying in his Dad's basement right now, but have a looked at a nice townhouse for rent in a much more desirable area of the city they live in. They will find out today or tomorrow if they get it. His workplace has raised several hundred dollars, replaced his lost work shirts, and the district manager gave him several hundred in gift cards. His laptop was destroyed by water damage, so I'm not sure when he will be back online. He told me to thank everyone who has posted here for the positive vibes! So far, things are looking up. 8)

Just reading this now. Terrible news, sorry to hear. Hang in there lapsed. Hope he gets the townhouse.
Thanks for the updates, Philo.

I'm in. I just received a very generous x-mas gift from Mr. Ghost {thank you sir!}, so I can afford to pay it forward. How do y'all want to do it?

Thanks again to everyone who's posted here!

He also stopped posting at DZW, since they did away with the groups and deleted everyone's profiles(photo albums....). The only place to post comments and pics is on DZ's Blog pages.
Trip's probably out of town for a while.

Maps is gone too, but I hardly noticed.

With all due respect, I don't think a new computer is or should be his number one priority. Sounds like he has some good options as far as places to stay. Hell, I don't even have a computer.

I have some extra Zappa CDs I can send him though if somebody gives me an address.

DZ has quite the ego. Enigmatic photos, his page only, no more fans, just consumers.

That's pretty cold.

A computer is not his #1 priority, and this was Plook's idea. Don't you choose not to have a computer? A decent little laptop can be obtained now for a few hundred dollars. With all due respect, a couple of those road trips for shows could pay for that? Please don't take that the wrong way. It's all about how you prefer to spend your entertainment money. I'll be willing to help you get one next. But the wheels are already in motion for this, as pedro is already sending me something via PayPal. So, I guess he's elected me as treasurer? Anyone who wants to participate can PM me. If you don't want to, that's cool too. No one's begging anyone to participate, and this wasn't my idea.

I gave him around 25 Rykos when I purchased the latest round of remasters. I kept Hot Rats, and the '95 Shut Up box [which I prefer over the latest 2 disc edition]. I will see if they survived the fire, but I don't think that was his first priority at the moment.

Talked to Maps this morning. They got the townhouse! Move in date is January 2nd. It was a short conversation. He's been overwhelmed by the support from his workplace. And when I mentioned the computer, he got choked up and said he had to charge his phone before work. He's supposed to call me after work. But, he did want me to thank everyone!

You're right, it's a nice gesture and in a way that relates to how most of us know him. I didn't mean to be insensitive I just thought if he lost everything in a fire maybe he wants some underpants first. Would just a flat check that he could use towards anything be more useful?

But I did notice, though. I guess there's not much truth to the 'hardly' part. Sorry for posting that.

I wasn't aware of lm's recent loss. That sucks.

I hope everything works out for the positive.

Maps and I like a lot of the same music beyond Zappa. When the time comes I'm ready to burn cd's or send files to help replenish his collection. I look forward to his return.

^^^^Nice bro! I'm thinking about buying an 8 X 10 for $25? I can frame it, and leave it for Malachi. Thanks to my relentless playing of their catalog {and "The Boys Are Back In Town" being included in Toy Story}, he loves Thin Lizzy.

@Plook and pedro:
Sorry, I haven't updated you guys. My company decided to let over half the plant take vacation the last 2 weeks of the year. This caused the rest of us to work 3 times harder than normal. My ass was dragging by the end of this week.

We raised $180, and I sent it to him Wednesday morning via Priority Mail. He received it yesterday. I don't know how long it will take him to get the computer, but he won't have internet access until they move into the townhouse on Tuesday. Thanks to both of you guys!

PS to pedro:
We don't agree politically, but you are a true humanitarian sir. I think it's fucking hilarious that SPACENUTS doesn't understand how we could disagree, and still be friendly and cordial to one another. Fuck the goddamn haters!
