Mama Plook passed away today at 3:09 Pacific Time...

She was 84 and had an intense battle with cancer in 2005 at which time they gave her 6 months to live...she was an unstoppable force :!:

She was always ahead of her time, voracious reader and in the last 10 years due to being pretty much stuck at home would read 2 to 4 novels a week. She was very intelligent and known for her vast knowledge and recall, she was most peoples Google back in the day, because she lost a little memory about 8 years ago she saw people less, she wanted to be remembered at her best.

She was a trend setter, saw many of the top rock acts of the 60's before they were huge including The Rolling Stones, The Doors, and The Mothers of Invention when they played at a Go Go Bar near our house. She taught ballroom dancing for years and loved to go out dancing on Friday night with my dad. She got a good job in the 60's and was an early breaker of the glass ceiling, she had a Union Golden Parachute like no other and was always proud of that.

Here are a few pics I had handy from my visit with her last summer, I took some snaps of her photo albums.

The 50's pregnant with me and after I was born

The 60's she loved her house, my grandfather did the brickwork in photo 1 when he was in his late 80's, she passed there right next to where they are posing in photo 2 when they were building the room addition (ironic)

I'm sure her and dad are dancing in heaven... 8)

The complete dysfunctional Plook Clan is meeting in LA for Mama Plooks ceremony next week, I have been working with Sister Plook on a Obituary, setting-up hall, food, and putting out loud Italian arguments that I know included plenty of hand gestures even though it was over the phone...

ocevad we should have lunch or dinner one day if we can coordinate...

The level of arguing and dysfunctional in the Plook-o-sphere is hitting a Code Red, that means I need to be the rational one keeping the peace and not getting to do any of the arguing , bitching, and moaning...I never get to have fun...

Thank you Bonny, well the ceremony at the restaurant Saturday is turning into a huge neighborhood reunion, I grew up on a horseshoe with over 60 homes and a homestead farm (that is now over 30 3 bedroom condos), the children that ran together number over 40 and most family's stayed in the neighbor well into the kids late 20's and early 30's, several original family live there...we have had confirmation of 30 people coming and the word is still spreading to all points on the map.

Everyone loved and respected my mom and everyone hung out there, when she cooked her giant pot of spaghetti sauce for two days there would be a plate of bread next to it and if any kids smelled it they would walk in and dip some bread, we had many a block party at our house acting out famous songs (along came Jones comes to mind) and we would take turns being bands like the Beatles, CCR, The Rolling Stones, and an endless stream of 60's and early 70's hits as youth's, and 3 huge house party's when we were in high school (I'm am pretty sure some movie house party's were based on our events), we had bands and kegs and 200 to 300 hundred people (we had a huge extended group of friends).

One of my early skate and surf bro's called last night we hadn't talked since the mid 80's, we laughed and cried it was great, he said I always tell stories of stuff I did with you to people and they have trouble believing we did all that stuff, I told him it happens to all of us ...we were blessed in a special way in our upbringing...and the "Block Mom" had a lot to do with it... :D

We made it to LA some tough sledding in the rain this morning, we hit town later than expected and got to enjoy the full breadth & depth of the So Cal traffic seen...the Daughter Plook the Younger had to go to the ladys room so we got off the freeway at what turned out to be the nexus of hell, the I5 710 Atlantic Blvd triangle took 40 minutes to get back on the freeway...eating and headed to bed I'm cooked.

We had a wonderful Celebration for Mamma Plook Saturday which turned out to be a reunion of the old neighborhood and the Skater Surfers...the story's were flying and my daughters were blown away that all the Concert, Skateboard, and surfing tails were confirmed... :D

Some block moms showed up and many others we had 35 people plus the family, I got a bunch of stuff from my moms and found a couple of old photo albums, should supply some good laughs...my mom totally saved everything and my SUV was packed for the drive home...

Made it home safe need to get caught up on work and sort through the endless boxes of stuff i brought home... :!:
