It was stunning, I never thought I'd get to hear any of FZ's orchestral music performed live, let alone Varèse.....

Myself and a number of like minded individuals have been e mailing the NZSO and their Zappa head associate conductor Hamish McKeich suggesting that, rather than wasting all their rehearsal time on just the one concert, they should organize an encore performance.....

Along with a bunch of phone filmers, I saw a couple of people filming on behalf of the orchestra with professional looking equipment, I've been searching social media locally to see if anything has been put up.....If I find anything I'll be sure to post the link(s).

I am not going to TOO many concerts this year, for I am a broke fucking teenager.

I saw Dweezil a few days ago and I will be seeing Paul Simon in june. I better enjoy Paul though since it's his last tour. I'm A big girl now and can pay for my own damn concert ticets ! :o

I fucking NEEDED to see Dweezil. I hadn't been out on the town in ages: being cooped up inside all the goddamn fucking time in suburbia isn't too good for a growing teen such as myself. I put lipstick on for that show, and it's important if I'm wearing lipstick. It may not have been the greatest show I'd seen, but it was representative of that sweet, sweet freedom I need in my life.

Last nite it was B.O.C.

Some highlights include:
1.Good, local opening band did a nice cover of Deep Purple's "Burn"

2.Eric Bloom spoke after 3rd song of how he & the band gorged themselves on local chicken.

3. Cities on Flame, ETI, Dft Reaper,Golden Age of Leather, Godzilla, Burnin For You, Buck's Boogie. ENCORE: Cities On Flame

4. A tall, blond, braided ponytail-wearing, R. Crumb-type woman with big, bouncing tits and tight jeans wearing a white t-shirt which read "Call Me Darlin" was dancing nearby and made it difficult to concentrate entirely on the tunes  .

The Chicago Zappa Collective will be performing OSFA at Progtoberfest this year.

Other notables at this years Progtoberfest are Fischer's Flicker, Soft Machine and Screaming Headless Torsos.
I don't see a Keneally band this year... grrr. I think he's played at all 3 Progtoberfests so far.

Last weekend I travelled to the hell hole that is Auckland for Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening.....

Yet another epic road trip up the island in all it's autumnal splendor plus a little winter wonderland action along the way, and all to an extensive FZ soundtrack.

Had a great time with a bunch of drunk bogans listening to loud well played Led Zep music in a concert setting.

Played gps roulette on the trip back, added around 200k's of off the beaten track scenic back roads to the trip, all in all a nice extended weekend getaway.

(a word to the wise, don't pickup Goth hitchhikers, they're just to depressing.)

Giant Sand was fantastic. Howe Gelb has kind of charisma. It was very hot that day, almost 30 degrees celsius, and very sticky. While the support group played, we had a few cold beers outside. Too bad, that only ca. 150 people wanted to see such a legendary band. Well, it was hot for Howe, too. There were lots of empty beer bottles on the stage when the show began. Howe seemed to be drunk. After two songs he searched for another guitar on the right. There was a guitar case …. empty. A nice lady brought him the guitar from the left. The band played rough, fast, and dirty. Three guitars, bass, drums, and Jack Daniel's as special guest. The show was really great. I was happy to see these guys for the first time.
So, what did I learn that eve ? Climate Change is happening, you can bear Oberhausen only drunk, and Giant Sand is still a great band. I'm looking forward to Howe's next projects.

Since I'm interested in music from Japan, I tried them on youtube. It's heavy, very heavy.

So me and the peeps needed a little nostalgia for the old folks, so we went to see the latest incarnation of Flo & Eddies Happy Together Tour. All in all, despite the cheesiness, we had a great time until... Volman came out, without Howard. At first was somewhat pissed until Mark explained that Howard was in the hospital having all kinds of work done. Then became concerned. Changed the whole mood of the evening. Howards replacement was, of all people a producer named Ron Dante, but more notably known as the voice of The Archies. After a healthy dose of "Sugar Sugar" I was pretty depressed UNTIL Mark mentioned juxtaposition and the band went right into an abbreviated version of Peaches en Regalia. Evening saved!

^^I’m a fan of Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast and Dante was a recent guest. Worth checking out. Howard Kaylan was a past guest as well. Fun stuff!

Has anyone seen Miles Electric Band? Mostly alumni from Miles' 80s groups, Badal Roy looks like the only recruit from '70s lineups. Miles' nephew Vince Wilburn Jr(drums) got this lineup together recently. Blackbyrd McKnight is one of the guitarists, DJ Logic on soundscapes to name a few. They're playing a free show @ Rochester Jazzfest this Friday. Probably gonna check it out. Just saw The Bad Plus in a small theater there last weekend. The new pianist is awesome. They killed.
