Holdsworth was great. Got lucky and got a good table with a real cool couple (one of the last seated options and quite necessary as my buddy has MS and can't stand for extended periods). Third time seeing Allan but first time seeing Jimmy Haslip and Virgil Donati. Man, is Donati ever a fantastic drummer. Maybe the best I've ever seen in person. I dug Haslip's playing too so all in all probably my favorite Holdsworth band I've seen of the three (Chad Wackerman was the drummer the two other times and Jimmy Johnson the bass player). The sound was real good to my ears though Allan complained to the soundboard at one point about some reverb that was "really bugging" him. Allan also told the audience that photos were OK but no filming as there "was already enough shit out there". Allan was as great as ever. He has gained quite a bit of weight since I saw him last time and he seemed to be moving kind of slow going on and off the stage (he is 68 now). Hopefully, he is healthy and can take some weight off so he can keep it up.

Just wanted to bump up this up due to Allan's passing. Unfortunately, my concerns about his health appear to not be unfounded. It makes me want to take stock in my own health and get my shit together. The above show was from August 2014.

Just go for it! That's the advice you always give me when it comes to concert decisions. That would actually be a pretty cool experience (plus the swag). If money was no object I'd say absolutely. I couldn't afford it though.

Age 59 front row, I dunno, mind you my hair will be getting really good in the back by October

I'm flirting with the idea of flying to the hell hole that is Auckland for the Friday night show then returning home for the Saturday night show, it'll be the cheaper seats if I can convince the holder of the purse to swing both ways, or just embarrass myself in the front row in Wellington.....decisions decisions decisions

A particular concert happened in Vancouver last night. But for fear of deletion, I'll only provide a short review. I was probably only 6 feet from D. Cian's range and delivery was phenomenal. Scheila was hilarious as Mary. D's line, "Ahmet's waiting for you in the tool shed", pretty much summarized things nicely over the past several months. It was a much treasured moment. D didn't tear up during WIEH, but he damn near came close. Energy-wise, it was definitely better than the last time they played here (and maybe even setlist-wise too).

SETLIST:

8:10pm

Help, I'm A Rock / Transylvania Boogie
It Can't Happen Here
You're Probably Wondering Why I'm Here?
Lemme Take You To The Beach
How Could I Be Such A Fool?
Who Are The Brian Police?
What Will This Evening Bring Me This Morning?
Shove It Right In
Flower Punk
Inca Roads
Black Napkins
Teen-Age Wind
Montana
Zomby Woof
Doreen
You Are What You Is
Wet T-Shirt Night
On The Bus
Keep It Greasey
Watermelon In Easter Hay

Encore:

Ride My Face To Vancouver
Cosmik Debris
The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing
Muffin Man

10:35pm

Wish they'd go for another album - "Giants" was really a return to form and made one wish for even more: particularly the following...
"Mercury Rising"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bATNGBKTsvY
"Another Camden Afternoon"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_k1aE0Fvqo
"Adios"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpcHSQyPxFQ

...which I think are some of the best they've ever done.

Plus the cover is great!

Glad to hear Mr. Baker touched down safely.

If you don't mind me asking, what did your insanity package run you?

A smidge over NZ$1200.00.....

I have a power point presentation all prepared to justify the purchase to the accountant

If my calculations are correct, that's only $828.00 US so we'll let you keep your credit card. Actually, that's quite alright to support a fine American artist like Alice. It's good for our economy.

Alice is playing in my neck of the woods in about a month on a Saturday night (w/ Skid Row who I could do without). Cheap seats are $40.00 plus fees. I might check it out. I've never seen Alice and we ain't getting any younger.
