Saw Thee Oh Sees on the 19th. Not alot of good pics, but a great show.

Clearly, the best pic of the night

The rest were worse than this

Also, saw Jim James (from My Morning Jacket) on Sunday. We saw him solo a year ago and it was phenomenal. Now he has a different band and it was good, but not as good as last year.

... and seeing Earthless on Friday. They were great the last time, so expectations are high. I know, don't have expectations, blablabla...

I saw Chester's Gorilla (formerly Chicago Zappa Collective) on Tuesday at Reggie's in Chicago. 13 people on that tiny stage! They said that the bass player puts the band together, but it is clearly the guitarist, Chris Siebold, who fronts the band. I've seen him in several bands over the years, doing Peaches and of course, the full Billy the Mountain stage production. I saw the Chicago Zappa Collective a few years ago when they did their take on Joe's Garage.
They did a couple performances before the election and supposedly did the full BWTHW.
This night they did most of BWTHW, adding some nice selections to the mix. They had tons of lyric changes referring to Trump and politics in general.

The Torture Never Stops
Star Spangled Banner
Elvis Has Just Left the Building
Planet of the Baritone Women
Any Kind of Pain
Dickie's Such an Asshole
When the Lie's So Big
Rhymin Man
The Untouchables
Why Don't You Like Me?
Andy
Bacon Fat
Jezebel Boy (Denis Hastert)
Outside Now
Hot Plate Heaven
What Kind of Girl? (Strawberry Fields)
Jesus Thinks You're a Jerk

I had known that one of Reggie's busses had FZ on it, but have only seen it now.

^^^I notice the Reggie Jackson A's jersey on the wall. I assume the club owner got it because the club's name is Reggie's. I don't imagine Reggie Jackson actually has anything to do with the club?

I looked around their site, but can't find any reference to who Reggie is.

Was a really good show. Popa was on fire for the 25 minute "Hey!Joe!" opener. A bit of boogie on other standards. Big highlights were "Third Stone from the Sun", "Machine Gun". Why he had to do "Hallelujia" with audience participation singing was disconcerting! The rhythm section was tight. I swear the bass player has a computer controlled robotic right hand.
over and out.

^^^I would love to see that tour if they came anywhere close but they're not. Closest shows are LA and Las Vegas. :(

I'm tempted. I must resist until I secure a King Crimson ticket. No west coast dates yet. They're(KC) supposed to be here in June.

First night of tour  . All over this. Have been waiting over 20 yrs to see McLaughlin.
It's a damn shame he and Billy Cobham never buried the hatchet, otherwise I'm sure it could be billed as a Mahavishnu Orchestra reunion. Who knows, maybe Jan Hammer or Goodman will show up for encores?
Should be awesome. Not a big fan of Herring but I saw him once doing "Jazz Is Dead" w/ Cobham, Alphonso Johnson & the keyboardist from Dixie Dregs in 1998. Great show and album, Cobham was the reason I checked that out. I liked the work Herring did with ARU in the '90s, just never followed what he did with Dead members more recently.

^^^I'd love to see that but it's not likely. Mahavishnu is something I've been trying to catch up on.
