Going to see Jeff Beck in July. It is probably about time if I want to see him before his hair starts to gray.

It's amazing how these septuagenarian rockers don't go gray! Todd Rundgren (who actually doesn't turn 70 until June) even has blue and green and yellow hair. I don't know how they do it.

^Plook may know. There's a close connection between movie star and rock star hair, ya know?

I don't use dye but I would not wish ill on any who have, the funny thing for me is when I get out of the shower and comb my hair and set it at helmet mode with hair products it's still dark...but as the day progresses it starts drying out and frizzing up and getting a grey sheen to the point I look like Albert Einstein and Jack Nicholson from the shining had a baby...

Bummer. Are you going to try and see a show later in the tour?

I started going gray/white somewhere around age 15 - 16, people assumed I was using blond hair dye for image purposes, which was de rigueur back in the 70's. By my 20's the jig was up the hair was whiter than white, which according to my great-grandmother foretold of a short sharp life.....Ha! 60th comin' right up!

My majestic mane has been a scissor free zone for going on eighteen Month's or so now and has gotten really good in the back front and sides and looks absolutely ridiculous if I'm honest, and is in desperate need of some light barberage, however my appearance annoys certain people sooooo much, that I'm prepared to continue looking unfashionable, and stick to them like glue in public for the foreseeable future.....just to f@%k with them.....

+1

What a disaster!

Did you have cancellation insurance on the ticket(s) Arkay?

That sucks, Arkay! I live 45 mins from Count Basie and by the time I found out about the show, it was already sold out.

My wife bought the plane ticket and the David Byrne ticket as a Christmas gift. So, once I resigned to the fact that I couldn't go, she was able to get the plane ticket refunded and sold the show ticket back. Dunno if it was for full value and didn't ask. I'll see the show when they come to Chicago.
Since I had already planned on a weekend off, I decided to take a road trip to St Louis.

Image

St Louis has a record store called Vintage Vinyl. I drove there Friday and came back on Saturday. Found plenty of tunes, vinyl & cds. They don't have a deeeep collection for completists, but they have at least something by most artists you can think of. Worth the trip. This is the only picture I didn't take and they have a painting of Chuck Berry on the side now.

Image

The area that Vintage Vinyl is in has lots of music stuff. The sidewalk has Walk of Fame stars w/ Miles Davis, David Sanborn, Bobby McFerrin etc... and a statue of Chuck...
Image

Also in that area was a blues guitarist playing the Spider Man theme and a flutist playing the I Dream of Jeannie Theme. (Not simultaneously) :)

Fitz's Rootbeer is pretty damn good and the restaurant had a long line out the door...
Image

I stayed at the Moonrise Hotel, which had a moon on the roof...
Image

and from the rooftop bar...
Image

Then the next morning, after going record shopping again, I stopped for a nice Raspberry Concrete. They had 4 lines each 5+ deep. This town likes custard!

+ 1 Cheers Arkay, good news that all was not lost dollar wise and you have a road trip option.

I was caught out badly by presale dates on Roger Waters tickets for a Wednesday night concert, I paid the money, secured the tickets, booked the hotel, I was done and dusted. A week or so later they announced the concert was to be held on the Saturday of the same week, I immediately cancelled the hotel and rebooked to suit the Saturday show incurring some hefty cancellation fees. Another week went by before I realised that the Saturday concert was a second show, and of course my tickets were for the first show, which was being held on the Wednesday.....Another phone call to the hotel cancelling and rebooking the original dates and getting another yuge cancellation fee. By this stage I had effectively paid for the room three and a half times, luckily I'm a regular there and have been a member of their loyalty program for over twenty years, so when I finally checked in and explained what a fool I had been, they gave me a 65% credit against my next stay and upgraded me to a penthouse suite for the duration of this visit.....I may come out of this debacle even Steven after all.....

Good conclusion after a comedy of errors that could rival a Seinfeld episode...

Concerts I'm NOT going to....

Levitation Fest. I was really hoping I could hit the Electric Wizard show on Friday and then Thee Oh Sees and Holy Wave on Saturday. Could've been a great trip to Austin, but couldn't make it work.

Of course, Electric Wizard is playing the east and west coasts, but nothing near Chicago/Milwaukee. Argh.

I will not be going to see Def Leppard and Journey.
No Slayer and Anthrax, either.

Alice Cooper just popped up on the radar for late summer on the west coast. Alice is on my bucket list so this will probably be the one. I'll go to Reno on August 16th. He's also at a casino in Jackson, CA and in San Jose but the Reno venue is MUCH nicer.

I WILL NOT be going to see Night Ranger and Loverboy.

I saw ^Night Ranger once. They opened for The Cult, who were opening for Steve Miller.

Actually, I think Night Ranger was one of the better hair metal/pop metal bands of the ‘80’s. I was never impressed enough to buy one of their albums but they had some talent in that band.

Full disclosure: I think I did have one or two of those Loverboy albums when they were ripping it up.

The Dixie Dregs, last night, March 16, 2018, at Town Hall, NYC.

Although I've seen Steve Morse several times over the years, last night was my first time seeing the Dregs. Excellent show.
