Who was it.. I can't think of who it is but wasn't one of the band members wearing socks with sandles on the Mothermania album cover?

That would be Roy Estrada the pedophile. I was referring to the picture at the top of the page. The same one above this post ^ and yes, I think he wears them on Mothermania too. Good eye!

When FZ wrote the liner notes for Freak Out! the phrase was "unbelievably tolerant", as in Roy is an asthmatic Pachuco, good-natured excellent bass player, involved in the R&B scene here for about ten years. He is unbelievably tolerant.

So Bunk was cool. He looked old way back in the 60s. Haha.

Bunk was very cool back in the day. He's aged well too I think. He's pretty suave and sophisticated in the recent Mother's in the 1960's documentary, very much the wise old gent.

He was very pleasant when I met him after a Grandmother's gig here in the UK back in '97 too (always like to throw that in there) 8)

Yeah, he seems like he'd be a 'groovy cat' to hang out with.

I can make GW on a $1dollar bill look just like FZ with a lot of strokes of the pen. The eyes and nose are close enough and with FZ's long hair you can make old George's face look more sallow/skinny like FZ was. Then add the mustache and walla! You got FZ on our currency like he would have been anyway!

This poster is a fake. It is not rare. It is not a collector's item. It was not printed in 1972. The concert allegedly advertised on the poster did not take place.

Frank Zappa did perform a concert with the Mothers Of Invention at Cal State Fullerton, with Alice Cooper as the opening act. But it was on November 8, 1968. This 1968 concert can be heard on Our Man In Nirvana (Beat The Boots #2).

On November 8, 1972, Frank Zappa and his Petit Wazoo band were touring the eastern United States--thousands of miles from Fullerton. They performed in Commack, New York, on November 7, 1972, and in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 10, 1972.

On November 8, 1972, Alice Cooper were en route from the eastern United States--thousands of miles from Fullerton--to Europe--even further (in the same direction) from Fullerton. They performed in Hempstead, New York, on November 2, 1972, and in Glasgow, Scotland, on November 10, 1972.

It would appear so.

"On Oct. 24, 1971, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention played to a jammed University of Denver arena. According to event coverage by Clarion reporter Steve Marsh (BA ’74), many students didn’t know what to expect from the legendary rocker, who was known for his anarchical shows. In the words of a student just before the concert: “Jesus, this outa be one helluva weird night, man.” Zappa recorded more than 60 albums and was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.

This poster resides in DU’s archives. If you were at the concert, please write us with your recollections."

Funny, it don't look like Ansley. But they always put the drummer in the back-middle! Where did you get that info bro'?

Thanx and nice too! I wonder if anyone's written their account of the festivities that night? 8)

'Frank Zappa Coloring Book' to Be Released in November

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/frank-zappa-coloring-book-be-released-october-1220746

June 24, 2019 2:00pm by Graeme McMillan

The book by David Calcano and Lindsay Lee is authorized by the late musician's estate.

This fall, it’s time to Freak Out! — and color in — with the upcoming release of The Frank Zappa Coloring Book, a brand-new collection of interactive illustrations based around the life and work of one of America’s most unique musicians.

Fully authorized by the Zappa estate, the book by David Calcano and Lindsay Lee will feature 72 new pieces of artwork ready for coloring, complete with references, in-jokes and Easter eggs for Zappa enthusiasts from the “Valley Girl” fan to the hardcore “G-Spot Tornado” aficionado.

“There is no one like Frank Zappa, and there will never be anyone like Frank Zappa,” Calcano said in a statement about the project. “He carved his own genre with pure genius. Every record he did gave us a different experience, that was our main inspiration for this book, let your imagination free and color while listening to Zappa music… What’s better than that?”

Zappa first came to public attention with the release of the 1966 album Freak Out! with the band Mothers of Invention, followed by the critically acclaimed We’re Only in It for the Money two years later. Across the next three decades, he would continue to release a number of albums — including Weasels Ripped My Flesh, Joe’s Garage and Jazz From Hell — while continuing to innovate and confound audiences with each new move. Zappa was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, two years after his death.

"I'm blown away," said Ahmet Zappa, one of the late musician's sons. "This entire project brings the biggest smile to my face. People who don't like coloring books, I fear, are dead inside. I'm so happy the Zappa Coloring Book exists, and I worship David Calcano and his team at Fantoons. They make everything better."

The Frank Zappa Coloring Book, which is set be released in bookstores Nov. 5, is the latest for Fantoons, the publisher responsible for the upcoming Rush graphic novel The Making of Farewell to Kings, as well as the Motörhead-themed seek-and-find book Where’s Lemmy?

Found this cool FZ rubber stamp the other day. Still debating on whether or not I'm gonna use it.

Andy Prieboy, who used to be in Wall of Voodoo and worked with Thunes and Kenneally, has apparently let go of his Zappa music stand...

"MY MUSIC STAND GETS ADDED TO A PRIVATE COLLECTION!

A Frank Zappa collection that features Zappa's Bosendorfer piano, stuffed armadillo, conductors baton and metronome has now added my music stand from Zappa's rehearsal hall, Joes Garage.

I gave it to my friend, Ian. He collects Zappa stuff.

HERES HOW I GOT A JOE'S GARAGE MUSIC STAND
My cherished friend, Scott Thunes, borrowed the stand when he played with Frank Zappa. Later, he gave it to me when he left LA. I used it extensively for 24 years.

WHY I GAVE IT AWAY
When the fires hit last November, we had to evacuate. Pronto. We didn't know where to go. Out of nowhere, Ian called and offered one of his homes. It was stunning home from the 1940s on top of a mountain in Beverly Glen. We stayed for 21 days.

Deeply grateful, what do you give a man who can loan you a mountain top home?

You give him the one thing he does not have: a music stand from Joe's Garage.

When I gave it to him he blanched. "No! I can't take something like this...Scott Thunes gave it to you!"
He took a photo and sent it to Jack White, who he manages.

------

A keen eye will notice three round dents in the music stand. I added these in the mid-1990s. The result of having ingested my daily three pots of strong coffee. One day, frustrated, I lost it and beat the shit out of an uncooperative lyric book with a ball peen hammer."
