"Aah, it doesn't bother me," Love replied, pulling his own pipe out of a leather satchel. "When some loud bragger tries to put me down and says his dope is great, I tell him right away, 'Now, whatsamatter, buddy, ain't you heard of my dope? It's number one in the state.'" Love lit his pipe, passed it to Lennon, and said, "So be true to your dope." (Mark Shipper, Paperback Writer)

I have that cover, but alas not the magazine.....

I thought I was buying a magazine from Israel, but thanks to some clever use of the English language on the e-bay listing, I got a nice picture.

A Month later the same seller listed the coverless magazine.

During my e-bay addiction years, I made exactly two purchases from sellers in Israel, and was fleeced both times.

New Zealanders to make the decision in cannabis referendum

Tuesday, 7 May 2019, 9:15 am

Press Release: New Zealand Government

Minister of Justice
Pānui Pāpāho
Media Statement

7 May 2019

The Government has announced details of how New Zealanders will choose whether or not to legalise and regulate cannabis, said Justice Minister Andrew Little.

The Coalition Government is committed to a health-based approach to drugs, to minimise harm and take control away from criminals. The referendum is a commitment in the Labour-Green Confidence and Supply Agreement, as well as a longstanding commitment from New Zealand First to hold a referendum on the issue.

“There will be a clear choice for New Zealanders in a referendum at the 2020 General Election. Cabinet has agreed there will be a simple Yes/No question on the basis of a draft piece of legislation.

“That draft legislation will include:

• A minimum age of 20 to use and purchase recreational cannabis,
• Regulations and commercial supply controls,
• Limited home-growing options,
• A public education programme,
• Stakeholder engagement.

“Officials are now empowered to draft the legislation with stakeholder input, and the Electoral Commission will draft the referendum question to appear on the ballot.

“The voters’ choice will be binding because all of the parties that make up the current Government have committed to abide by the outcome.

“We hope and expect the National Party will also commit to respecting the voters’ decision.

“I have today released the actual paper considered by Cabinet,” said Andrew Little.

The Justice Minister also confirmed there will be no other government initiated referendums at the next election.

My current supplier is cash only. An hour, or so, after ordering, it's delivered to my home. Buying still feels like the old days... The car pulls up, I go out, hand the cash to the driver, he gives me my stuff, and then I go back in, past all the people staring , suspiciously, at me. (I live in an apartment building).

I have images of being mugged by a random passerby

in the 70's there was this delivery guy called Christ on a bike due to his extremely long hair and beard and (noisy) bike, I swear "Christ" had powers of invisibility, despite his flamboyant clothing and riding speed and style he was never stopped and never busted, he'd also pick-up and deliver fish 'n' chips for his special disciples.....uber-eats '73

From the short-lived series You, Me and the Apocalypse:

Father Jude: Let me ask you, do you find the phrase "Christ on a bike" offensive? Because I just used it in a meeting, and you would have thought that I'd performed an abortion on the table or something.

Sister Celine: Well, I suppose the image of Christ riding a bicycle could seem a little bit disrespectful.

Father Jude: Really? Because I think he'd be very likely to ride a bike. He seems like that kind of a guy to me. I mean, what else would he show up in, a stretch Hummer?

Teens less likely to use cannabis when it's legal, US study finds

Teenagers are less likely to use cannabis in places where the drug has been legalised, a new study suggests.

Researchers at Montana State University looked at health surveys of US high school pupils between 1993 and 2017.

While overall use of the drug among young people went up in the US, teen use declined by nearly 10% in states where recreational use was legalised.

Some 33 states have legalised medical cannabis, while 10 states have also legalised recreational use.

Cannabis use remains illegal in all states for people under the age of 18.

Lead author of the study Mark Anderson told the Associated Press that the study, published in the medical journal Jama Paediatrics, "should help to quell some concerns that use among teens will actually go up".

His team analysed data on about 1.4 million teenagers in the US, taken from the Youth Risk Behaviour Surveys, an annual national survey carried out by the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

Dr Anderson said it was usually harder for teens to buy from licensed dispensaries - where proof of age is required - than from dealers, which could partly explain the drop. Cannabis sold in dispensaries is also often more expensive.

Dr Anderson said that the researchers did not find a change after medical cannabis was legalised - only when the drug was legalised for recreational purposes.

The results echo those of a previous study, published last December, that found cannabis use among teens in Washington dropped after the state legalised the drug in 2012.

But the results contradicted a 2018 study from Colorado which found that the number of high school pupils who said they used cannabis stayed the same after recreational use was legalised in that state in 2014.

Dr Anderson told the US broadcaster CNN that, because most states that have legalised cannabis did so recently, the team would need to continue to track the data and update their findings "in a few years".

Wellington cannabis club raided, two men arrested
Dan Satherley, Simon Wong7 hrs ago

© Video - Newshub; Image - Drug Policy Alliance Watch: Cannabis lovers gather at Whangarei Daktory for happy end to 2016.

Two men in their late 60s have been arrested on drugs charges in Wellington following a police raid.

Police say the 69- and 67-year-old men face 21 charges between them of supplying and possessing class B and C drugs.

Officers seized cannabis, cash and equipment for growing cannabis.

It's understood the operation took place at a cannabis club known as The Daktory on Hania St. The original Daktory, in Auckland, was shut down in 2012 after a police raid.

The Wellington club is run by the same man who ran the Auckland operation, Dakta Green. Newshub understands he's one of the two who were arrested on Friday.

When the Wellington Daktory opened earlier this year, Green told Stuff he expected police are now "taking a much more open view".

"I want to actually invite the police to come along, and have a look and see what we're doing."

He's reportedly opposed to the upcoming referendum on recreational cannabis, saying MPs should just change the law, as they did with homosexual and prostitution law reform.

Green served time for his actions in Auckland.

"One day, and I hope in the near future, our members of Parliament will understand that there is no good reason to send people to jail for cannabis, other than the fact it is an illegal product," Green said in 2011.

"It's time we questioned why cannabis is illegal, and the fact that there might be one in a million that have some adverse reaction to cannabis is not a reason to send me to jail – it's a reason to have a health-related approach to dealing with these issues."

The accused pair will face court on Monday.

Willie Nelson: ‘I Wouldn’t Be Alive’ Without Pot
Sterling Whitaker
May 1, 2019
Image
https://tasteofcountry.com/willie-nelson-pot-saved-his-life/

Willie Nelson is a well-known proponent for marijuana, but in a recent interview, he explains that his use of the drug is about more than just getting high. The country music icon tells Rolling Stone that without pot, "I wouldn't be alive."

Nelson says he has been partaking in marijuana for 65 years, and it's been his exclusive drug of choice since 1978, when he gave up cigarettes and whiskey.

"It saved my life, really," he reflects. "I wouldn’t have lived 85 years if I’d have kept drinking and smoking like I was when I was 30, 40 years old. I think that weed kept me from wanting to kill people. And probably kept a lot of people from wanting to kill me, too — out there drunk, running around.”

Nelson readily admits that he drank too much in the early days of his career, and it led to some bad behavior.

“I used to drink a lot,” he allows. “And that brings on negative thinking. You start thinking about everything that’s wrong and then you better drink another or take another shot so it gets better. And it don’t get better.”

He's been a fierce advocate for pot for decades, and now that it's been legalized in some states, he even owns his own line of marijuana and related products called Willie's Reserve. Nelson is pleased that many of his long-held views about pot are now mainstream in terms of the personal and economic benefits of legalizing cannabis and taxing it.

“It’s nice to watch it being accepted — knowing you were right all the time about it: that it was not a killer drug,” Nelson states. “It’s a medicine.”

Country music’s most well-known toker even has his own line of marijuana. Getting a chance to puff with Nelson is a rite of passage bestowed upon only the most worthy in country music, and it’s a memorable experience (or so we hear). Actually, it may not be memorable if you can't remember it.
