The Sheltering Sky

I finally got around to watching this. I read the novel several years ago after learning that the King Crimson song was a reference to this and also Tea in the Sahara by the Police. I don't think the movie got great reviews but I thought it was done beautifully.

I finally saw the director cut. I never get tired of this comedy flick.

A filmmaker explores the radical change of her once Democratic father to an angry right-wing fanatic after his immersion in talk radio and Fox News. She discovers this to be a powerful phenomenon that has divided families across the nation.

Rented Two-Minute Warning yesterday.

Pretty good disaster movie from 1975 (a sniper at a pro football championship game). Filmed at the LA Coliseum and starring Charlton Heston.

Is that the edition with the extra scenes put back in? If so, I have that edition too. It came with some reproduction posters from various countries. Although I did find some of the scenes interesting, it feels as though they are best left out. The reason why is that the film was originally shot w/o sound and the voices of Van Cleef, Wallach &Eastwood dubbed in. No problem. The previously unseen footage also had to be dubbed, but of course the actors had senior citizen voices (not to mention Van Cleef was dead and had to have a vocal substitute.) In the grand scheme, this is small potatoes and only a minor complaint. What really ticked me off was that they fucked with the sound of the gunfire, which was fine to my ears. The newer gunfire overdub takes me out of the film and is rather irksome. Putting snazzy 21st century sounds on a film from the 1960s creates a mutated blend which I just don't like. :P

Stephen King's IT. Pretty good! In future I should watch all horror late in the evening.
