Just picked up Dave McKean's "Mirrormask" on DVD. The story is no more than a warmed over "Alice in Wonderland" or "Labyrinth". But if you like that kind of story, this is the next generation. I mean, Dave McKean (creator/director), Neil Gaiman(screenplay) and the Jim Henson Company? How can you go wrong? It's like an acid-fueled Terry Gilliam gone muppet. I REALLY liked it.

http://www.mckean-art.co.uk/
http://www.sonypictures.com/homevideo/mirrormask/

Yeah, I see what you mean. I also dislike movie scenes where animals get hurt, even if it is faked.

Anyway, you should check Sgt. Kabukiman (sp?), Terror Firmer and Bloodsucking Freaks (I'm not sure if this was originally a Troma release, but the DVD is. Pretty depraved shit), I liked those.

Toxic Avenger IV is hilarious, I like that one even better than the original. Parts II and III are shit. It's tasteless trash, but I like these kind of movies every once in a while.

"Re-Animator" is also a classic in this genre, better check that one first if you haven't seen it yet.
