Having just returned from the world premiere of Zappa , a documentary written and directed by Alex Winter, I wanted to share some brief thoughts.

The location was a drive-in in Upstate NY. Having attended with some who worked on the film, some who work for the trust and a number of NYs Finest hard cores that have gone to countless Zappa shows Old, New , Borrowed and Blue seemed a sense of how we were all engaged to a way of watching what we never imagined when the kickstarter first began.

While the viewing experience was much different we made past our way through the first film Materna. Of note, as The Creature from Zappa Halloween 73' viewed from his front seat, a girl in the film could be seen on all fours in a black spandex suit, wearing space goggles then shifting to another character on all fours vomiting in a toilet. One could only wonder if the next scene could be connected to the true story of Michael Kenyon. Those two scenes were about all I saw as the Zappa hardcores were gathering in their pseudo wagon train formation.

As fans talked outside their vehicles about Zappa concerts we could only wonder what Alex Winter's in depth look into the life of Frank Zappa would include.

Well, not to give any surprises away, what I will say is that we each have our own timeline as to how we connect to Frank Zappa's Universe. Records, preamble dialog, concerts, backstage at shows, official Zappa film projects and since the days of the internet, countless youtube access to decades of tv material. While we each shared stories before the show, I 'll leave this up to you to contemplate your own timeline in Zappa's Universe.

Now if you will, take a moment to meditate on that..... What Alex Winter has written and directed here, the level of access to never before seen film is one thing, there is tons of it here folks, but I was left with a feeling of knowing Frank Zappa in a way that I never could have imagined. No matter how many shows, time backstage, catalog or film viewing. Tonight, I entered a Brave New World.

Alex Winter has made a film that is for the ages. It's ever so much more than a documentary time capsule that gets sent to Mars or where man can send things for people to see outstanding human achievements. Simply put, it's a way that brings each viewer into Frank Zappa's life that has never been shown, nor has it ever been felt.

After his viewing a wise man told me about accolades Alex would be receiving on his film. From this here man's perspective, there are no boundaries of space or time where this film should not exist. I can never give enough appreciation.Thank you Alex Winter.

Any news on the "on demand" part? I don't have cable anymore.

And for all of us, will there be a DVD?

OK, click to 47 on the podcast
https://www.zappa.com/news/zappacast-ep ... -heart-you

and a soundtrack, DVD etc are coming later.

Is that Nick Mason at exactly 45:00? Also, I'm not sure whether I've seen Lowell George, yet. I still have more than half the film to go. 8)

TIL that Linda Ronstadt met Lowell George in Atlanta and they had a brief affair....until George's wife showed up one day. She introduced herself to him and he said "Here do you want a qualuude?" She never mentions his name but said it was "the guy who wrote this song". Here's the video where she talks about it:

Okay. But the questions remain the same: Is that Nick Mason at exactly 45:00? Is Lowell George shown onscreen (not a photo)?

Fooled me. I searched for photos matching the facial hair with the flowery shirt, and I thought I had found one.

Close enough, but just not it...

SPOILER: maybe one of the coolest parts in the movie is when Zappa explains the Ensemble Modern that since they are playing just that single note, that they should style and play the heck out of it... SO COOL!

Well, when I look at it, it looks like (wait a minute, was that Pamela playing with her boob?!?) er, sorry, I think it's the winner of an impersonator contest. They put up a graphic on all the stars around this scene, naming the stars but not this guy, which is why I don't think it's a celebrity. The mustache and goatee look painted on his face. I thought it was Frank for just a second, until the real thing popped up to shake this guy's hand.
