Not sure if it has been brought to attention in this forum (I didn't find any mention of it), but the legendary and unseen film footage of Frank Zappa playing with Pink Floyd in the Amougie festival in Belgium in 1969 seems to finally be getting an official release in November, in a massive Pink Floyd Archives box set !

http://www.pinkfloyd.com/

The full tracklisting is here: http://www.pinkfloyd.com/news/pdfs/Comp ... isting.pdf
Check out the content of the 1969 DVD.

I know Frank said that, but there are the facts.
Zappa was the M.O.C. for this festival and he was in charge of presenting each band to the audience, and he played with many bands. Including the Floyd.

I think Frank must have forgotten that, or he just didn't want to talk about it.

I know, sorry, I was kidding. This is a simulation of the kind of reaction I used to receive more than a decade ago around here for raising such topic (and others)...

this has been a long debated topic here in another thread. it does now seems as if FZ was wrong about never playing with them.

...and I will say it again, because I liked it...

The first time I heard of this (and maybe about FZ) was in a Floyd book that said a collector had this footage under lock and key. I am glad it is finally going to see the light of day, to be on topic.

There are several long threads about FZ:PF but very few mentions to actual footage.

DS: Alright. Here's a controversy you can settle. There are many people who think that you performed, in 1969, at a festival in Belgium called 'Amougies'...

FZ: Yes
DS: ... performed onstage with Pink Floyd. True or false?
FZ: Not with Pink Floyd.
DS: That's what I thought. You introduced Beefheart to the audience...
FZ: Yes, and I introduced a lot of other acts, too. You see, that was a very weird thing. I was hired to be a master of ceremonies...
DS: Gotcha.
FZ: That was after the Mothers had broken up, and y'know, I had time on my hands. These people contacted me. They offered me ten thousand dollars to be an emcee at a festival, all expenses paid, and go over there, and, y'know, whatever I wanted to do, and I said, "Fine." So, I get there, and they neglected to tell me that nobody spoke English. (laughter) I mean, most of the people there spoke French, and all I could do was point and wave, (laughter) and furthermore, the festival was originally supposed to be in France. The French government stopped it, and so, at the last minute, it was moved across the border into Belgium, into the middle of a turnip patch, in the middle of nowhere, in a tent that was held up by steel girders. This tent held fifteen thousand people. Freezing cold, damp weather, constant fog, the most MISERABLE (laughter) circumstances you could find yourself in, for three days, and it was a twenty-four-hour-a-day festival, and the kids would come there, and they had their sleeping bags, and they were sleeping through ... they were just in this tent FREEZING, laying on the ground, sleeping, while music went on around the clock with all these groups...
DS: How bizarre.
FZ: ... and they were filming it.
DS: A true war story.
RS: So, did you perform with anyone?
DS: Yeah. To nail that down once and for all, you did not perform with Pink Floyd, right?
FZ: No. I think I performed with Aynsley Dunbar, and then, there was a jam session that had Archie Shepp, 'Philly Joe' Jones, and some other jazz guys that played.

I think no-one, apart from the director and probably the band, saw the footage with FZ.
What happened was that the concerts (or parts of the concerts) were filmed by a guy called Jérome Laperrousaz. He was supposed to make a feature film out of it, called "Music Power".
Some say the film actually did exists (it has its own page on imdb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0344831/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_7) but has never been shown outside of some screening in the early 70s.

It is not known if the footage of "Interstellar overdrive" (the tune which FZ played on) is included or not. On Youtube there are large clips of parts of the movie (among them the Beefheart performance and the Floyd performance - but "interstellar overdrive" is only in audio form - no picture).

I HOPE that the version in the forthcoming Floyd boxset is the actual filmed version with picture, and not just the audio (set up the some still photographs or something).

The event was filmed by Jerome Lapperrousaz who put some money into staging the event. The Floyd refused him the ability to show the film. The Pink Floyd have done remarkably well to keep the film lid nailed shut for 45 years. It seems they knew that it would come handy one day.

And it has as The new product will make them ( as a %) more money than any of other legit releases and for a very good reason.

Did anyone notice that Juliens are selling off FZ and Gail stuff by auction?

Got the monster Pink Floyd set yesterday. Despite claims to the contrary, Frank does indeed sit in with Pink Floyd on Interstellar Overdrive.

The film is in colour and the picture is excellent. The sound is not perfect but much better than the bootlegs of the same show that I've heard.

I am not shelling out US$550 for this. No matter how desirable it might be, I just can't do it.

I thought you were a socialist? was there any question?
“My sympathy ends when it becomes undeniable to every intelligent person, every person with any depth, that this Beltway rat is mostly just antagonistic in a sinister and downright evil way. Oh, sure, he sometimes knows when to kiss ass, but that only makes him all the more repulsive to those of us who care about representing reality.”

This is way over analysed. I simply studied the info for this package and decided I really wanted it but couldn't afford it.

Thank you for the confirmation that this footage is indeed included in the set !
I can't wait to see it. One day I will be able to buy it. ;)

Watched and enjoyed, Thanks. Frank seemed to kind of get into never ever playing with Pink Floyd. Roger looked almost star-struck.

Thanks for sharing !!
I remember seeing a boot being sold in Goldmine mag some 30+ yrs ago of this and looking for years after that for it.
As much as I love FZ & early PF , I'm kinda glad I didn't waste the few bucks I had back then , on it.
:| :)
