The trailer is kinda cute, it is a wonder why they do not include Dupreee's Paradise.

Fantastic. I'm no expert but KIDS is one of the best concert type movies I have seen.

And I still think the "soundtrack" is just a bonus, the real one is to come (and why not, there's money to be made).

Damn straight. Just might be the best rock movie ever.

I went to see it in a theater when it was new. The next week I went back to the same place for a Woody Allen double feature, but I could hear The Kids Are Alright thumping away in the next room. Made me so happy to remember how great it was that I went back the next week to see it again.

Smash the whole place up in order to take one person down. Very mature, no?

After this release, what I'm really hoping for is a Roxy Project / Object release, which would consist of:

1. CD of the original LP mix
2. All of the extra Roxy footage not included in the DVD / BluRay
3. Dweezil's Son of Roxy DVD

The other thing I just thought of is that it is in 16:9 format. So this means that it is definitely cropped from 4:3

This is an ever topical issue in film making. Whether inappropriate cropping is happening is a matter of the director's intent (sorry, I couldn't come up with a better word). Most standard films (i.e., not counting cinemascope format styles over 2:1) are seen in theaters in 16:9 and also like this on moderns TVs. However, even for 35mm films, they are actually filmed in 4:3. Masking then happens in theaters (or transfer), and the cinematographers are aware of it and directors also. Some disagreemeent and confusion have occurred, famously when Kubrick demanded his last three films to be released on DVD in full 4:3 format; i.e., without masking.

So, if Zappa was having movie theaters in mind, it may have been shot knowingly that the top and bottom of the image should not be used (often the cinematographer on site masks the image to envisage it in 16:9). Then a 16:9 presentation would be fine. If he was having TV showings in mind (which at that time was 4:3), then we are missing out some imagery.

So what was the film maker's intent? That is teh question (and here Trendy could come in handy with all his non-ballpark inside knowledge about what Zappa's true intentions were :P ).

Well good, now I can get exactly what I want, of what they're selling. Saves me some money from getting both the DVD/CD and Bluray.

As I don't spend large sums of time searching or reading the forum I'd like to pass a brief comment on the trailer. It's not as if I am trying to bend anyones opinion, I'd suspect some may be wondering of who did the dialogue for the Roxy The Movie Trailer. If it has been spoken about, very well for those who have given opinions, kindly excuse me for not going back and trudging through the tundra so to speak.

Putting all the live singing sections aside. While we do get a bit of live Frank Zappa spoken entry, such as the "1,2,3,4", "Squat"(love it, wish ZPZs crowd had the audacity to do so at club dates) and "Thank You", it sounds like Billy Bob Thornton did the promotional dialogue that accompanies the text descriptions.

I find it quite intersting that a portion of the overtones that can be heard in the trailer sound very much like Frank Zappa.

Peace

Massively interesting! I've been dwelling on it ever since the trailer went up. Really blew my mind. It's a first! No one has ever attempted that before. Sweet Jesus!

(kidding aside, I imagine this is Trendy's way of hinting that Billy Bob Thornton is due to sing some FZ w/ZFT in the future. Either that or he's nuts)

Well, Johnny, for the ladies:
A full week's supply of D'Artagnan's Onion rings,
Ronco's new Bondage-In-A-Bottle!
It won't crack, it won't slip, it won't peel, it won't budge,
It won't bite, it won't fade . . .
And of course a brand new, absolutely brand new,
New, new, and of course, but also a new car!
