Sold direct from the site they would cut out the distributor and make more money cocklover. Zappa was all about that, or did you forget when you fell in love with Disco Boy and got grinding to a disco beat lol

Frank always dealt with some form of music distributor when he was alive. His 80's and onwards LP's were distributed internationally by Epic, EMI and others. His CD's were distributed by Rykodisc & EMI. He released a small batch through Barking Pumpkin in the early 90's just because his distribution deal with Ryko expired, but he eventually re-upped with them.

The Roxy release is available in stores and every online site that sells music, which will certainly move more copies and make the family more money than just by listing it only on their website through MusicToday (which is technically also a distributor).

But if you feel the need for that old Barfko Swill / Music Today experience:

1. Order the set through amazon and select 'free shipping'

2. If you need to check on your order status, ask your cat where it is, or just shout down a well. Ask every day, you will get the same answer.

3. When it arrives, wait an extra two weeks before you open it.

4. Throw a $20 bill into the toilet.

5. Flush.

Trust me, it will feel EXACTLY the same.

There is no way that the deal the Zappa Family signed with Universal is going to make them less money. If so, why would they enter into it?

I used amazon as an example. Was MusicToday the only company that would ship Zappa CD's to New Zealand? Are you really that lost?

Good Lord...

I received my copy(s) of Roxy the Movie via G & S Music in the UK.....My point is/was that I would have preferred to pay most of my money directly to the ZFT so they can continue to release FZ's music.

It seems a little illogical to me that it's not available through their own web site. especially since Ahmet did say something along the lines of "under his regime the fans would get what they want and how they want it". I suspect that there is some kind of business restriction stopping Barfko from being able to provide the movie right away, as the same thing happened with the 2012 remastered releases, by the time they were listed by Barfko, they had been available for a couple of Months from Amazon.

Hi,

I'll post a review in a couple of places and hopefully it will help sell a couple more copies ... these numbers should be at least twice, and 20k copies of these will not even pay for all the efforts and time spent getting this DVD out to the public. I'm seeing this as a serious drain of energy and finances right now.

Anything else we can do to help a bit more? Review is positive, as the album/show always was and deserves to be!

Got my copy for Christmas too and watched about half of it when i got some peace and quiet. Tom Fowler doesn't look cool with that cigar. Amazing to watch the footage, FZ seems to be in his element.

Great to see the dance sequnce with Brenda - I've only just managed to sit down and watch the Be-bop Tango.
What a fit body Brenda has - wow!
Larna is far nicer though and dances really nice.
A couple of things;
Does Zappa say "Don's ex-wife"? That's what I always thought from listening to the lp. So, Don Preston's ex-wife?
Also, anybody notice how Brenda puts her hands around Larna's chest and then Larna removes them?!?
Larna wasn't having any of that shit

I always thought FZ was saying "Dunt's ex-wife!", meaning his brother-in-law Jay (or John) "Dunt" Sloatman. It was nice to see Frank was friendly with her after Dunt and she split. As if I know them.

Interesting, I've never heard of this Dunt bloke before.
So he was Gail's brother and it was his ex-wife that got up on stage? Nice touch - in terms of thinking about those that attended the show.

That aside and just thinking out aloud, can you actually imagine being there on one if those nights? Definitely in my top 10 dream lists.
The musicianship is staggering.
Also, I get quite irritated by Frank's later claims that almost everything else that he did outside of the "serious" music (my words, not his) was just to earn a living and pay for his proper music - how did these shows fit into that claim? Looks to me like this was everything that he was aiming for
