Well, Frank Zappa isn't making this film, some other guy is.

This is a grand thing that Alex Winter is doing, total raised over $745K and a commitment to first save the vault and then make the doc, how can we be other than pleased?

with all that is happening in the Zappa world at the moment I am really surprised at the silence on this forum, why is it so quite around here?

Obviously i made a typo, it's obviously meant to be quiet..
it's as though the forum has gone to sleep while there has been lot's of Zappa news etc

the navy brass band was excellent, does no one have anything to say on this forum anymore?

Well, some are checking in. Frankly I believe the possibility of a digital pass to even some of the vault is stunning. I think we are in a new era in the world of Zappa. As a lifelong devotee, I am exicited. It also could be that the next phase of Zappa exploration may be outside this forum. Either way I am hopeful.

Documentary director Alex Winter has announced he will turn his attention to the life of iconic musician and artist Frank Zappa for his next project. Winter, who recently put together the critically acclaimed Silk Road doc Deep Web, has received approval and access from the Zappa Family Trust for the documentary which is due in 2017. You may remember Winter as the actor who portrayed Bill in the 1989 movie Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Winter is firm in stating that the film he is putting together about Zappa is not a standard music doc or biopic, but instead “an epic saga of a great American artist and thinker; a major event worthy of the scope of Zappa’s prodigious and varied creative output, and the breadth of his personal and political life.” The filmmaker adds, “There has yet to be a definitive, authorized documentary on the extraordinary life and work of Frank Zappa. I am beyond thrilled to be embarking on this journey.”

The Zappa Family Trust has given Winter and partner Glen Zipper exclusive access to the Zappa Vault; a vast collection of unseen visual and audio recordings, in addition to previously released video clips, interviews and concert recordings, with Winter noting that “our tale will be told primarily in Frank’s own words; he will be our guide through this journey.”

"We couldn’t be happier to be working with Alex, an extraordinary filmmaker in his own wright. With an advanced degree in Perfect Timing and a shared respect for 'conceptual continuity,' we feel it is our duty. We also like his attitudinal position - Gravity and Humor go a long way with us,” Gail Zappa said.

Frank's son Ahmet Zappa added, “This is not an easy story to tell and we trust that Alex truly understands the complex and multi-faceted man that my father was.”

Really looking forward to this. Ahmet is right. Some people cast Frank in the wrong light and don't understand his genious. Here's hoping this documentary showcases his brilliance and doesn't push the totally incorrect and unjustified 'Freak' button like some other documentaries in the past.

Hey Grey Ghost...things are alright, there was a big Bernie Sanders rally in town today (along with a car show, so I'm guessing traffic was awful.) and although I wished I could attend, I can't leave Mom alone and she didn't want to go. Not that it would change my mind one way or the other about how I would vote, but there has NEVER been a big rally like this in our little Podunk town before. Okay, back to our thread already in progress....have no idea where this doc would be playing around here, possibly San Luis Obispo. Again, with my family responsibility, I'll have to wait for the DVD. No biggie.
