There were some clips a few years back about a documentary about the PAL studio. I guess nothing ever became of that in the way of an official release or anything?

Ha! You mean Freak Out In Cucamonga. The website still exists (http://www.nflguess.com/freakout/), but I don't think it will ever see the light of day now.

Yeah, that's it. In this age of crowd sourcing and whatnot I get frustrated when something that is of interest gets teased but doesn't get done (hello, Roxy DVD). I'm a big Tubes fan and a documentary was in the works within the last ten years with some good clips released. Apparently this has died on the vine though. It seems a lot more obscure documentary projects than the ones I really want to see end up getting made.

I was not aware that Paul Buff passed away. That is sad to learn. A nice pal, he even quickly responded me upon the investigations about the allegations that young Zappa was at Darmstadt in the early 60s:
