Bob Dylan visited FZ on December 22, 1982, showing up at FZ's door, in the freezing cold, to play some songs on the piano; he asks FZ if he would produce an album (what turned out to be "Infidels") for him. Dylan did not get in touch with FZ after that; "Infidels" was produced by Bob Dylan & Mark Knopfler and released in 1983.

I’m not a huge Bob Dylan fan though I do like him. Infidels is one of the few Dylan albums I bought besides compilations. I thought it was rather good. Could FZ’s participation have improved things? I don’t know.

A few well placed snorks could have really livened it up!

I've loved this Dylan record since it came out. Union Sundown, I and I, and Don't Fall Apart on Me Tonight have been strong songs for me for 35 years!
Andbutso, I can't imagine Zappa's 1982-83 aesthetic working into what is. It would be a completely other thing.
I think Knopfler added beautiful blues lines. It's a soulful sound. Listen to the layers on I and I.
I can imagine Richard Thompson doing a similar thing with this record, however.

I don't know, Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Infidel would have been a great album.

with songs like "I and a Teenage Prostitute", "It's a soulful Envelope", "Don't Fall Apart on Me Valley Girl", "No Not Union"

It's Alright, Ma (We're Only in it for the Money)

Temptation’s page flies out the door
You follow, find yourself at war
Watch waterfalls of pity roar
You feel to moan but unlike before
You discover that you’d just be one more

Person dreaming on cushions of velvet & satin
To music by magic by people that happen
To enter the world of a strange purple
Jello
The dreams as they live them are all
Mellow yellow
