Just a note for you fans out there...Zappa fans , that is. I think a lot of you that love Grand Wazoo and other Frank Zappa jazz albums would really get into a new musician called Kamasi Washington. He's listed as "hip Hop" in genre (Gawd knows what Hip Hop really is....I have releases that sound like Pop, Jazz, and Rap filed within the realm of "Hip Hop"???) but he's purely a Jazz guy! He's a new "Spiritual Jazz" player as far as My ears tell me. His first album was a three CD set called The Epic...and it came off a bit like a large ensemble Pharoah Sanders or Coltrane type of sound (while not ripping any of them off) with a chorus of singers soulfully mixed into the pieces!

Anyway....his new album is called Heaven and Earth ...and it's a two CD set that presents the saxophonist's "visions" of his surroundings from within and also how he'd like things to be idealistically. This album sounds classic, and yet goes pretty far "out' in jazz terms too. It's got a fun "extra" too....for now. The middle of the digi-pak is perforated if you look very closely ….and if you split that perforation you get a third "hidden" CD called "The Choice" too. It's pretty cool stuff....and for being "Hip Hop" he sure sounds Jazz-y to me. Oh and "Thundercat ...the "hipHop" bass player is also featured.

PS also try and check out Thundercat's "Drunk" album for what to me sounds like a fully wacked out album in a sort of Todd Rundgren in space mode!

Just a tip off for anyone interested....

I haven't stopped to listen to his stuff, but for the current critics he is the hot shit...
