The day time bands really stood out Rare Earth, Earth Wind & Fire, the Eagles, and Seals & Croft were all excellent day time Festival Bands.

I went with my older sister and her friends (they dragged along the kid brother yet again, I really thank them for that), we had a camp set up away from the inner stage area on a slope and you could see the entire area below.

When a band was going to come on I would work my way down close to the stage, all though packed you could work your way in, and people were not so uptight then.

Music was playing as we were waiting for the Eagles almost everyone was seated, I was up dancing to “Stuck in the Middle with You” and there was a gal in a white muslin dress also dancing about 50 feet away, we danced together across a sea of people, singing and hand gesturing the song to each other.

We never met or talked, but I am sure that not a year or a month or possible a week has gone by when I have thought back on that moment somewhere in time when I danced with a girl while 250,000 people watched.

Plook, fabulous story! I remember hearing about both Cal Jams, but was around 15 for the first one, and waaay too young (by my parent's standards) to go, and had to settle by watching it on tv (maybe that was Cal Jam 2) with my brother and his gf during a family vacation in Colorado. Meh. Anyway, Plook's reminicence sounds like the story a character tells in Citizen Kane about seeing a pretty girl come off a ferry and not a day goes by when he doesn't think of seeing the girl with the parasol. Isn't a lovely memory always like that?

You may have seen the Cal Jam 1 on TV they filmed the complete event and there are videos on Youtube, If I am not mistaken there was a special on TV at the time, but I cannot trust my memory completely at the edges.

Thank you for your kind words concerning my reminiscence, I to remember the part in Citizen Kane you speech of, the similarity in my story makes me wonder if I am an unwitting plagiarist…
