At this price Jerry Garcia would probably never come back and play. He was never one to fleece the fans.

+ 1. Garcia hated playing the stadiums after the success of In The Dark.

Regarding Jerry's fairness to everyone. The following is from Bill's new book, which is turning out to be my favorite Dead book yet.

Regarding the recording of Garcia:
"Because it was a solo venture, Jerry decided he wanted to play all of the instruments himself, except for drums-he enlisted me for that role. He also brought Ram Rod in for those sessions, doing roadie work essentially, running errands and moving around the equipment and stuff. We're both listed as production assistants in the credits. He paid Ram Rod the same amount that he paid me and that still bothers me to this day. But that was Jerry's sense of fairness, which speaks volumes for his character, I think."

A few sentences down:
"I was awarded songwriting credits on nearly half the album, which was generous of Jerry."

^ That looks like a guy who was behind me walkin out last night.
Great show, loved it! Prices and getting help to where the busses were parked wasn't good at all. I bought two items inside, a bag of Cracker Jacks and a dinky Gatorade drink, six bucks each. Two kids came up with $5 bucks each and couldn't buy anything. Everything is $6 bucks and up. I handed them each a dollar and asked them to pay it forward to someone else. The look on their faces when they found out they couldn't buy anything, not even water with $5 bucks broke my hardened heart. Totally flabbergasted, with a tear in their eyes! Just like I was when I found out about the shakedown parking. I didn't park in a lot or on Shakedown St. either!
Best light show I've ever seen, bar none. The special effects where awesome. Almost as awesome as the Boeing 747's comin' outta the sky straight over our heads, taking off from SJO! Very loud too!

As for Jerry, he didn't show, d'oh! But the rest of the Dead were in top form. They are special when they gel and they were very special last night. 8) :D

Now they're really, truly and gratefully... Dead. Thanks for the music!!!

^That's NBA great Bill Walton. These shows will probably bring him up to 1,000 that he's seen since the sixties. They kept showing him Saturday night on PPV! I was glad I showed up to my friends party. I'll probably show for the Friday Chitown show: maybe Sunday too. 8)

I saw a report that this was Walton's 856th show. One of my co-workers was there and he said they kept showing him on the big screen.

You're going to the Chicago shows?

Wow. I just heard that the Sunday show was really bad. One train wreck after another. Especially "He's Gone."

Can anyone confirm this?

It was a good show. Coming and going were a hassle, but the show was good. Light show was very good. The sound where I was, was adequate for that kind of outside venue. Some wind and some echo, but not bad for outside and up in the nosebleeds.

dunno guys, I watched the vid, and the expressions on their faces were "playful". I think it was an inside game. If you don't know what I am talking about, the "train wreck" that people are referring to is that people think no one knew who was supposed to sing and everyone was jumping in on one line or another. Like I said, it looked to me like they were having fun with it....whoever got the first words out first got the line. I saw no anger, animosity, or frustration. Just smiles.

Agree, a fun rehearsal for the last time they played or saw Jerry at Soldier Field. As far as the rest of the Dead are concerned, thats where Jerry left the music and them all together behind. So this is one last time for the send off.
Since the early daze, I always wondered why any SF band of the times "tour" would end anywhere other than the city of origin, SF where it all started for them. But I get this, it's about the music and how Jerry was pushed to his edge. He did like to go out and have fun. I used to see him with Nick Gravenites at The Keystone, Berkeley every month or so, but after he became a dog to rabid fans like Clapton, he was locked up in the land of the free.
Sad

8) I may watch the replay of Sunday when I go to my friends place in Anaheim this Friday. I'll have to get there early, though.
