The Indians are just too much for them. The Cubs might win another game in the series, but I wouldn't bet on it.

This is why I don't gamble.

Down 3-1 and seemingly out of luck just five days ago, the Chicago Cubs rallied to take the last three games of the World Series, for a 4-3 triumph over the Cleveland Indians. The final game was one for the ages, featuring a late comeback by Cleveland, a rain delay, and extra innings.

What does this have to do with politics (other than the fact that the Ricketts family, major GOP donors, own the Cubs)? Well, it turns out that there is an interesting pattern. Every time the Cubs win the World Series in an election year, the Republican candidate goes on to take the White House. This has held true for more than a century—108 years, to be exact. So, it could be Donald Trump's year after all.

High School Softball Pitcher Strikes Out All 21 Batters in Perfect Game

Image

High school softball pitcher Mia Faieta truly pitched a perfect game when striking out all 21 batters over seven innings in Friday's 4-0 state semifinal victory over North Warren.

The Cedar Grove sophomore recorded a punchout against every opponent for the second time in nine days.

"I've never witnessed anything like that before," Cedar Grove head coach Nicole Velardi told The Record's Robert Aitken Jr. "She really held it together. We didn't realize until the last inning that she was doing it."

As captured above, News 12 Varsity's Sean Reilly shared the scorecard from Faieta's remarkable gem. Faieta might have realized what she was accomplishing before her coach.

"This was fun," Faieta told Reilly. "I knew as the game kept going on [that] I had more and more. I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to jinx it."

According to MaxPreps, she has recorded a 1.36 ERA this season, while Aitken Jr. noted Friday's contest put her at 321 strikeouts for her sophomore campaign, which leads the state of New Jersey.

Cedar Grove will face Verona in Tuesday's sectional final.

Nationals' Bryce Harper gets one game lopped off suspension

Clay Jones

Major League Baseball has reduced the suspension for Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper by one game, a source confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday.

Harper, who originally received a four-game ban for his role in a fight with Giants reliever Hunter Strickland, dropped his appeal and will start serving his three-game suspension as the Nationals face the Giants on Wednesday night, the source said.

Harper, who is tied for the National League lead with 15 home runs and has a .322 average and 41 RBIs, will be eligible to return Sunday as the Nationals finish off a series at Oakland.

Fox Sports was the first to report that Harper's suspension had been reduced.

Strickland received a six-game ban for throwing a fastball at Harper during Monday's game, which led to a bench-clearing brawl between the teams. He also filed an appeal.

Strickland hit Harper in the hip with a pitch in the eighth inning and the Washington slugger charged the mound, firing his helmet wildly before trading punches to the head with Strickland during the Nationals' 3-0 win.

MLB chief baseball officer Joe Torre's explanation of the disciplinary decisions said Strickland intentionally hit "Harper with a pitch, inciting the bench-clearing incident and fighting" while Harper's suspension came "for charging the mound, throwing his helmet and fighting."

Each player also was fined an undisclosed amount.

"I'm obviously not thrilled about it,'' Strickland said about his suspension. "It's their call. We'll go from there. Whatever they ultimately decide, I'll own it and take the responsibility.''

According to ESPN Stats & Information, this will be Harper's second suspension. His first was in May 2016, for confronting umpire Brian Knight.

Cardinals Hit Grand Slam After 'Rally Cat' Invades Field

Image

St. Louis Cardinals fans who consider themselves superstitious may soon embrace the idea of the "Rally Cat."

With the bases loaded and the Cardinals trailing the Kansas City Royals 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning of Wednesday's contest at Busch Stadium, St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina had his at-bat interrupted when an adorable creature began a journey through the outfield.

The feline made it to the warning track before being captured by a member of the grounds crew. Unfortunately, the crew member received a few nibbles for his trouble as he carried the cat away from the action.

Molina clearly didn't mind having some time to think about his plate appearance, as he belted a grand slam to give the hosts an 8-5 lead.
