Last night I ordered some books, a biography about Buddy Holly and the book as seen above.
The Buddy Holly book should be here in 3-4 days, the MOI one takes about 2-3 weeks.

My question is a simple one:

Is the book any good ?

I thought it was a mildly interesting read. From what I remember of it, the book presented the view points of the original Mothers towards the history of the band. I read it a few years ago and don't have it with me now, but I would recommend reading it.

Definitely a good read. I got this back in 2001, as an early Mother's fan I was itching to read it - and wasn't disappointed.
Like Lumpy says too, get the recent DVD. That again was great. First time there has been good discussion and analysis of those early Mothers albums and tours. Most other Zappa doc's just skip right over this period to Hot Rats I find.

STILL no sign of the book
Have long gone read, enjoyed and finished the Buddy Holly book and LOVE to finally getting my hands on ''Necessity Is...''.

However, I did recently get an e-mail from the Dutch mailorder company i've ordered it from.
Somehow, they can't get hold of it either and therefore it will take longer than expected, but they will keep me informed...

That's a very nice offer from you, thanks

Let's hope those guys at Bol send me the book soon, because it's a long cycle from Leeuwarden to Eindhoven...

I found it a harmless enough read but I didn't really learn anything massively new. It's a bit weighted towards "tyrant Frank" and poor, downtrodden members of the MOI, but not overly so.

WOW

Some three months after ordering the book, it finally arrived TODAY !!!
And to think I nearly gave up hope it would ever arrive at all...

Already read the first 2 chapters and really digging it so far.
It's nice one can finally hear about the music, history and legacy of the Mothers Of Invention from people actually in that group, instead of nearly every book only focusing on Frank.

Also, nice finding out as to what the original members did before joining the MOI and learning a little more about their origins and so forth...

So, so far I says ''Two Thumbs Up !''

Three MONTHS?!?!?!?! Sounds like the time I ordered a college book. I needed to do the test in 6 weeks, and they took 5.5 weeks to send it to me. Needless to say I failed the subject.
