Well, the Blackhawks and the Kings are both out. Didn't see that coming. I'm hoping for a Was / St.L final.

My Hawks lose to Blues. I guess the dream is finally over. A great run tho.

I predicted both of those. Also, tip my hat to the Flyers. They had to play like they were in the playoffs for a couple months just to make the playoffs. I thought they made a good run. Just ran out of steam.

I'll go on a limb, and say the Preds will win game 7 too.

I hope the Pens make it, but it's starting to look like Caps / Stars to me?

Well damn tiboudre. Looks like Kessel is a much better player when he's not the main superstar? I can't believe we made it past the Caps. And, what about Murray. What an outstanding performance by a rookie goalie so far. Go Pens!

*Edit*
Eating crow this morning. Pretty tasty.

I have some thoughts on the Pit - TB series, but I'm going to wait until the series is over before I post. Could be soon!

You're no fun. I can take criticism.

Do or die for sure tonight!

Well here she goes Philo: I was hoping TB would win so they could prove as a team they don't need Stamkos. But alas it was not to be. The Pens were the hottest team coming out of the regular season so it's not a surprise they made it to the finals. My only criticism is that coach Sullivan should've kept with Murray even after that one bad game. We all know Fleury can't stop a beach ball in the playoffs. Murray's on a good roll and you shouldn't mess with that, especially since Fleury hasn't played in a long time. Having said that, I've enjoyed watching the Sharks since Thornton joined the team and I always cheer for the newbie underdog to win, but it'll be tough.

In the offseason I hope Stamkos leaves TB. He'll be the hottest free agent in a long, long time.

Other than the part about TB winning, I agree with your entire post. Sullivan never should have started Fluery. Other than that, I think he did a good job of adjusting the lines. The Pens have many different looks now. Letang needs to keep his cool though. It is very proven over the last few seasons that the Pens can't win without Letang. Can we beat the Sharks in a 4 of 7? I don't know? We shall see. Should be a good series though.

Are you hoping Toronto snags Stamkos?

The finals will be great. Judging from Game 1 it'll probably be a 6 or 7 game series, which is the most exciting.

With respect to Stamkos, my answer is yes and no. The Leafs need leadership to usher in the new blood of prospects (Nylander, Marner and probably Austin Matthews) but he'll have to step aside probably sooner rather than later. Getting Stamkos on a short term deal is most likely out of the question.

I doubt Stamkos will be looking for a short term deal?

What an exciting series so far! Not just because my team is winning. Both games have been great. Going to San Jose will be tough.

Glad I got to see the Pens raise the banner at least one more time in my life. Was a cool ceremony. 8)

One minute you’re sitting at your desk working, the next your strapping up the pads in your first NHL game.

That’s exactly what happened to 36-year-old accountant Scott Foster, the emergency backup goalie that was called into action for the Chicago Blackhawks during last night’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.

Image

Foster is part of a crew of men’s league goaltenders who are on call for Chicago’s home games in case of emergencies for either team, something that is not uncommon in the NHL. Usually, it just ends up being a nice dinner and night out at the game.

Image

Back in February, the New York Rangers were forced to do the same thing when they placed the call to Andrew Margolin, and hilariously gave him this jersey. Rarely do these goalies actually suit up, and if they do, they usually just sit around in the locker room and wait for the game to finish. Not one has actually ever faced a shot.

That was true until last night.

Image

When the Blackhawk’s scheduled starter, Anton Forsberg, went down in the pregame warm-ups, backup Collin Delia, who had never played an NHL game, got the start between the pipes. Without a second goalie on the bench, Foster, who had not played a competitive hockey game in 12 years, was asked to get dressed… just in case.

Image

Well 6 minutes into the third period, that “just in case” happened. Delia went down after making an awkward save and was forced to leave the game, and Foster, who was sitting around in the locker room, suddenly got the surprise of a lifetime.

Image

Amazingly, the married father of two, who plays in two rec leagues, stopped all 7 shots he faced with the hometown crowd erupting for every one.

Image

All his buddies from his beer league were cheering him on too.

Image

After helping the Blackhawks secure the win, his teammates mobbed him. You can tell they really appreciated the moment.

Image

A night that Foster will surely never forget, it ended just as it should, with him being named the first star of the game.

Image

As a men’s league goalie myself, I have to say, Scott Foster, you really are a fucking legend!

And check out this awesome video the NHL put together highlighting his night. Image https://youtu.be/tG-IGNvfrg8?t=6
