Yes but to explain my point of view : I don't think there will be a civil war (it was a provocation from me -sorry for my horrible english-)but I think it's highly probable to see riots in suburbs very soon and people in the streets too after his first measures.... let's see

I am keen to understand who would be rioting?

Native French folk? Immigrants?
French & immigrant folk?
Poor French folk?
Educated middle class French folk?

And what would they be rioting against?

I can envisage civil unrest in the UK in the
next 150 years.

That's okay.....I'm glad that you noticed. Sometimes I think that certain posters must have Jimmy Carl Black on their mind when they type my name. :)

Merci beaucoup Jimmie D. Those were great. And just for the record Sarkozy is actually a little shorter than Napolean Bonaparte was.....

First kept promise : He makes all loan interest for your home tax deductible...

NOT REALLY! We've been trying to get rid of that regulation in NL because house prices are towering. Unfortunately that will result into lots of home owners getting into serious trouble. And every election there's a lot of debate about it. It's even addressed by its first letter, the H-word

... on the bright side, not so many Dutchmen will think of moving to France now.

Here we go!

Will the President back down on his reform plan? Will the French public (who voted for the reform plan) back their president? Will the Union bosses keep up the pressure, even though they've been paid off by the govern'ment and the big companies ? Will Sarkozy send in the troops to stem the tide of unrully civil servants ?

Don't touch that dial friends ! STAY TUNED!

French government reveals industry sponsored anti-piracy body

November 24, 2007

After brokering a deal between record companies, film corporations, internet firms and itself, the French government has unveiled a new anti-piracy body formed to counter what President Nicolas Sarkozy has described as the growing use of the internet as a "lawless zone where outlaws can pillage works with abandon or, worse, trade in them in total impunity".

Internet service providers will be forced to monitor the activities of their clients, and will restrict access for users known to be partaking in file sharing of selected media. In some cases, ISPs will be instructed to either cut off internet access entirely or threaten to do so.

The French consumer group UFC Que Choisir criticised the deal as being "very tough, potentially destructive of freedom, anti-economic and against digital history".

Film companies have agreed to hasten the cinema-to-DVD process as part of their obligations under the deal, and record companies have indicated future support for the sale of Digital Rights Management-free media in their stores.

The body will be supervised by a judge.

Good one Jim!
It's really front page news here this week. The funny thing is she looks just like his x just a bit younger. The french love it when their king, errr, i mean, their president shows that he can get his equipment wet with the young ladies whenever he wants it....It's a latin thing i guess.

As far as Khadafi's visit, the only ones screaming were the left intelectuals and the far right enema bags. Most everyone else have looked at the investment opportunities and the jobs that will come from his buying the Rafale Jet fighter (the first and only export purchase of that plane).
As someone once sang..."if u got the money honey, i've got the time".
