Very nice Caputh, in my glory days I travelled throughout Asia, but regretfully never made it to China, visited a few places in Burma and Laos that were on the boarder.....close, but no Peking duck.

Got up at 7 and went at 7:40 to nearest lake to find a reported Pine Warbler. It is my state bird 264 (the work of 4 years, 5th spring going.) Does not look much different from a gold finch. My photo is very dark. It looks like this.

I'm spending two or three more days on Obamacare that survived this long and really pays for very little. In may I start Medicare where the deductible is a few hundred dollars, not 6000 as it is for me now. My wife has a couple of years more on Obamacare, unless Trump kills it in 2020. Not a smart move in an election year, so most people on it get it for 2020 too.

Food was fantastic and really cheap. Five people could have a meal with drinks for about 20 dollars. The best meal we had was an enormous plate of fish and seafood which took us about 1 and a half hours to get through. The only thing I had trouble dealing with was noodles for breakfast and the lack of bread. Though I did manage to find a bakery that sold sliced bread. Unfortunately, we all kept forgetting to photograph the meals until we had finished them.

Rode 2 miles by bike in rain to vote Democrat mayor. We ride bikes to November elections too, unless it snows.

Went to the Stahls Automotive museum. Cars from the late 1800s up to the 1960s all owned by one person. Think I may go back next month.

Have a look...

May 8th was the six month Anniversary of the Camp Fire that destroyed Paradise, CA and neighboring communities. They are in the first couple of months of a massive cleanup that is expected to take at least a year to complete. There is a continuous parade of dump trucks on the freeways hauling debris to various landfills and recycling cleanup areas. Thousands of damaged trees are also being felled and harvested when possible. The town’s water supply is contaminated with cancer causing benzenes and other toxic chemicals that got sucked into the system. They say it will take 2-3 years to correct that problem. In the Town of Paradise the population has dropped from 27,000 to 4,500 (10% of residences survived and others are living in trailers or rv’s on their property). Many residents have fled the area and relocated to all parts of the US but the majority of folks are now living in the neighboring cities of Chico and Oroville (increasing each of their populations by 20%). This has created a huge housing crisis in those communities. Many people, especially those who didn’t have insurance are staying in trailers on streets or in driveways, garages, or with friends or family. FEMA has has brought in some some trailers at some sites but not nearly enough (more are coming). After the fire I stayed with relatives for a month before I got an apartment near Plook’s house in Yuba City. I lived there for four months before getting an offer from a friend to rent a room in a house in Oroville for about half the price of the apartment. Now it looks like I’ve found an affordable studio apartment in Chico where all my action is (family, doctors, recreation, live music, a beautiful park to hike in, etc.). I should be able to move there in a month or two. As for the people of Paradise who are still there or who want to rebuild it will be a long road to something resembling normalcy. I guess that goes for all the people that had to or decided to leave too.

Takind some seniors to see birds in the woods at 4PM. Before that I am going to a lake to look for a long tailed duck, checking 14 bluebird boxes on the way back. Birds all the way. Even my turkey sandwich for lunch.
Least sandpiper (about 5 inches long) yesterday

Thanks, punk. I’m doing pretty good under the circumstances. Looking forward to the next move where I should be able to plant it for awhile. :)

Beware of Walmart returns:

Returned an unopened cd which I paid $9 (plus tax)
Received only $8.53 didn't complain because line was forming behind me.

Sending my complaint to the manager, but I think it won't be fixed.
Nobody likes to be nickled and dimed on a return.
