So I'm on unemployment benefits.
And I work. But I don't work enough to get out of claiming benefits.
All salary I earn is automatically subtracted from the benefits. To this end, I have to go to the municipality every month with my complete bank data.

To what extent does it go? I had crocheted a unicorn for a friend, which I then mailed. Friend posted a lot of money onto my Paypal for it. Which came to such a shock to me, it was a friend and it was a teensy tiny unicorn, so I sent it all straight back except for the postage.
Then the benefit calculation came and substracted the full amount my friend gave me from the benefit.

I still work - I have my weekly spam, my weekly flyering, occasional cleaning work and last November I worked at the book fair for 60 hours.
The people at the municipality know I worked.
What they don't know, is that the book fair hasn't paid up yet.
What they don't know is that there was a little snafu with the most recent cleaning work I did, and I wasn't paid for that either.
So they docked my pay because they think I haven't handed in all data yet. 'Course the evidence is right there on my bank account, no money paid by Timing or Boekenfestijn.

Book fair can't be reached.
Timing I did reach. They'll correct the error... after Christmas.
Municipality was called - case manager won't be available until next Wednesday, after Chrismas.

Happy holiday, folks.

Benefit and temp agency have been resolved, but I wouldn't be surprised if Boekenfestijn's to go bankrupt.

Hard to see 12pm, when one get's up at 3:30am, for work. (Going out for curried lamb, and a Singapore Sling, didn't help, either) But, after an early evening nap, I was up for the duration. Watched Mariah Carey for a few minutes, to see which part of her near-naked body froze and fell off first, then watched Steve Harvey wed two people I've never heard of before. At midnight,Sabbs and I toasted each other with a shot of Old Krupnik.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, PEOPLES!

Power was turned off last night for about 30 mins in sub-zero conditions. Power company had to make some local repairs. Thankfully I have a generator & they provided a one hour warning. Went to sleep at 9:30 and slept through all the celebrating.

Happy new thing, everyone.
Sorry to hear about the problems with the benefits, BBP. Bureaucracy can be such a drag - particularly because those involved don't seem to realize you're a person.

What Hockney period did you see at the exhibition, Arcadian? Could you post an example?

We went to an exhibition of a little known expressionist called Ascher recently....
Image

He was a Jew who went into hiding in Berlin during the Nazi times, lost most of his paintings as a result of bombing during the war and led an entirely solitary existence in Grünewald for the rest of his life, painting stuff like this...

Interesting paintings, Caputh!

I had a great NYE with BF, we went to his sister where his parents, his siblings plus spouses and kids all attended, 11 people in total, with gourmet, fireworks early on after dark, waking up the kids at midnight to count down and watch the fireworks from their roof.
It's a Village In The Middle Of Nowhere, but the people who live there really live it up with the fireworks, wow! Plus because there's hardly any high buildings besides the medieval bell tower, you can look real far away!
One of the things people like to do out there in the north of The Netherlands, is "carbid schieten". What they do, is they put calcium carbide in a milk churn, add water, place the lid on the churn, light the ethyn gas that forms, and you get a 110 dB boom. God that's loud when you're in the middle of nowhere.

Nice stuff!

His different periods are really interesting, although I didn't really go for his polaroid phase.

My grandma used to have a signed etching of this one...

... I believe my uncle has it now.

The Goose is down, along with most of the family sites in some way. GoDaddy botched a server move.
