Just found out that a woman I used to work with and briefly dated back in the 90s died six days after turning 43. Just two years after getting married and having a daughter. We had an argument once and she broke things off for a couple of weeks until I penned a 3 page apology letter and then she forgave me and things were back to normal.Eventually we went our individual ways but I always had nice memories of her. Was just thinking about her and decided to look her up when I found her obituary. Damn! So long Jamie.

Yeah Milt, it is a strange feeling when an old friend passes on.
I think about her husband and especially little girl who likely has few lasting memories...

I went and got the scrips, and the tp and the chinese food and some olive oil and green onion, and some spring rolls

Thanks guys. Strange to think the midpoint of her life was 21.5 years. Just a guess, but her smoking may have played a roll in her early demise. I also feel bad for her husband and baby daughter.

Not specifically,it mentions a four year battle and that she died at home, but it must have been some form of cancer since in her obit her family thanked The Cancer Institute.

punky - hope it clears up soon. Glad to hear that prospects are good.

Milton - (I hope this is still PC) she looked very pretty indeed.

I've been a coughing and sneezing machine with the flu for the last four or five days, I'm still aching all over, but I think I've got it beaten.....so much for the $100.00 pre winter anti-flu injection :P

I spent a bit of money on magic pills and potions so I could continue to work, which upon reflection, a fist full of the cheaper aspirin would have delivered the same result.....

I hate being sick. Glad to hear you think you've got it to recede.

I had problems seeing earlier this year, so got glasses. Now I can see when I use them.
I had problems with my face and focus so asked for time off work.
Went to the doctor and they gave me meds. Now I can blink and almost whistle a little bit :smoke:
I tell ya though, they put me on an anti-viral and a steroid, at the rate of 60mg /day for the last few weeks.
When that starts to wear off in the day, and I'm busy, I get anxiety which fucks with my thinking.
I get alarmed over little things and prickly, and then respond like in a manic episode, way over-compensating.
And this went on for a week before I made a connection. And that was because they told me at the doctor to taper intake.
Since the symptoms are going away and I can do more with my face, like blink, like almost whistle, they said I can quit the steroid.
But they warned just stopping it can cause problems and so instead of 60mg, to take 40mg for a couple days, then 20mg for two more.
After a couple days, it seems like the anxiety might be receding.

But in the midst of my agitation, early on Sunday am, there was a multiple shooting in my town, three killed and two more wounded.
The people at the shelter were bugged even though we're a couple miles away. People slain were from out of town. The shooter has not been found.
The police have asked for any info about that night relating to what happened.
We're still in shock.

The next day was the massacre in Las Vegas.

For the next couple days I was obsessed with details at work going over and over trying to make sure about this or that guest or practice. Way more work emails worth of stuff then usual. By Wednesday I knew I needed to take a step back from the work, get my head clear. Friday I had gotten back to reading my book, "On Exile" by Francesco Filelfo, an Italian fifteenth century teacher who knew a lot of the luminaries then. It's a fictional dialogue talking about the consolations of exile from one's home. In it there is a bit of quoted text from Euripides' play "Phoenician Women". I found the original at tufts.edu and got out my greek dictionary. That was fun to do and there is more of it. I like trying to make sense out of text like that: a riddle, the relations between words, the ideas inherent, and with their own contexts.

I took off work last night and will tomorrow night as well. Tonight I go in for a single twelve-hour shift. Then I'll have another six days off.

Played 83, which for me (I only play a dozen times a year) is not too shabby. The course is absolutely perfect, and the weather was dreamy (26°C).
