The phenomenon of "mass nationality" created by mass media, entertainment and consumption, engenders the multiplicity of social and national spaces in which the structures of national identification are both constructed and deconstructed, embodied and disembodied. Culture here figures not only as a site of belonging, but also-and first of all-as a process of transition and becoming. New collective rituals of watching and interpreting talk shows and soap operas provide us with the resources of new communalities and identifications (as does the monument to Frank Zappa in Vilnius).
....monument to zappa in lithuania ???

found it... my response won't be as impressive as slime's but here's what kind of mut I am. My mother was adopted, so I don't totally know her side, but my father is mostly of german and irish decent. i have a big nose, and my last name is german. we've been in connecticut USA since about my great-great-great-great grandfather, as far as i know- maybe longer. old-school baby. my great great grandfather was a schooner captain that delivered stony creek granite to the base of the statue of liberty when the were setting that up. pretty neato huh? any other old schoolers 'round here?

And the Bristols in the USA would probably have been named by people who had sailed from Bristol, UK.

Well I actually live in a small town called CLEVEDON. I've not seen much about Clevedon anywhere else in the world, but everywhere I go I always see somebody from there (or here).

YIKES! Not that we should put too much credence in stereotypes, but sometimes it's scary how accurate they can be.

Anyhow, my father's side of the family came to the USA from Northern Italy in the early 1900's. My mother's father came to the USA from Hungary to avoid WWI. While here he met and married my mother's mother, also Hungarian, who had emigrated to the USA in the early 1900's.
