If it's not important why would you need an excuse?

To make yourself feel better about not trying.

But if its not important to me why would i need to make myself feel better about not trying? I dont need an excuse for not trying to do something that is not important to me. "Its not important" is as valid a reason not to do something as anything. Nothing against Trip but its a really dumb quote. The first half is right on but the second part is really stupid.

^That's how he rolls. Just like DZW. If he posts on a group, and I post after him, he says I'm following him; or I'm trying to out-do his post. He get upset too easily. How's that for stupid?

Maybe I'll take his advice and "Go Away." (from certain threads/groups)

The quote is about people in general. Not you, specifically. If you are not plagued by taking the easy way out, then, yes, it doesn't apply to you.
As an example for me, though...once upon a few decades ago, I was driving home from a party, and a man, in a business suit, came running down the road shouting for help. I always thought "helping my fellow man" was important to me, but I thought of two excuses to not get involved, and so pretended to not see him, and kept driving. Always regretted that. I thought I was made of better stuff.
Flash forward a few years, and while driving home (yes, yet another party) the tail lights of a car about 2 blocks ahead of me suddenly disappeared. When I got there, there was a telephone pole laying on the road. Obviously, the car had gone off the road, and hit the pole, before going down the embankment, onto the railway tracks. I knew I should stop, and help the driver, but those damn excuses popped up (been drinking. Cops will come. I could get in trouble), and so, I left with yet another regret in my life. (found out, the following day, the driver worked at the same place I did. He "fell asleep" coming home from a different party than I was at....Man, I shoulda stopped)
Anyway, I guess being a good citizen is not as important to me as I thought, or else I wouldn't have found excuses not to do what I figured I should.

It isn't necessary to imagine the world ending in fire or ice. There are two other possibilities: one is paperwork, and the other is nostalgia.
