Mort Drucker original artwork for "MAD Magazine Tribute to Warner Bros. 75th Anniversary" (1998)

Accomplished in pencil and gouache on large 23 x 29 in. lightweight board. Mort Drucker needs no introduction. As one of the main cover artists at MAD Magazine through the years, his wacky caricatures-of...well, just about everyone-have made folks laugh for decades!

. . . and wow, does he fit in a lot of characters into the scene: "Superman", "Batman" and "Robin", "Michigan J. Frog", "Gossamer", "Sylvester", "Tweety", "Granny", "Wyle E. Coyote", "Roadrunner", "Daffy Duck", "Bugs Bunny", "Pepe Le Pew", "Penelope Pussycat", "Marvin the Martian", "Yosemete Sam", "Porky Pig", and the Tasmanian Devil - all disgusted by lovable loser "Alfred E. Neuman". Truly a Drucker masterpiece!

This piece is the front cover of Mort’s book, “Mad About the Movies” …

British racing great Stirling Moss dies aged 90
23:23, April 12th, 2020.

Stirling Moss, a daring, speed-loving Englishman regarded as the greatest Formula One driver never to win the world championship, has died. He was 90.

A national treasure, affectionately known as "Mr. Motor Racing," he was fearless and fiercely competitive. The balding Moss' taste for adventure saw him push cars to their limits.

"If you're not trying to win at all costs," he said, "what on earth are you doing there?"

His often reckless attitude took a toll on his slight body. His career ended early, at age 31, after a horrific crash left him in a coma for a month in April 1962.

By then, Moss had won 16 of the 66 F1 races he entered and established a reputation as a technically excellent and versatile driver across many racing categories.

Arguably his greatest achievement was victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia a 1600km road race through Italy - by nearly half an hour over Juan Manuel Fangio, the Argentine great who was Moss' idol, teammate and rival.

An F1 title didn't follow, though - a travesty to many in motorsport. Moss finished second in the drivers' championship four times (1955-58) and third on three occasions.

In 1958, Moss lost out to Ferrari's Mike Hawthorn by one point despite winning four races to his rival's one. In 1959, Moss' car failed during the final race, in Florida, when leading and again in with a chance of the title.

"I hope I'll continue to be described as the greatest driver who never won the world championship, but it doesn't really matter," Moss once said. "The most important thing for me was gaining the respect of the other drivers and I think I achieved that."

In this file photo dated July 6, 1961, Stirling Moss, at the wheel of the revolutionary new Ferguson racing car, gets a shove off from mechanics as he takes the green racer out for some practice laps at Silverstone, England.

When his resolve to drive solely for English teams waned, Moss raced for Maserati, Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz - partnering Fangio in an all-star line-up. In total, Moss raced in 107 different types of car and boasted a record of 212 wins in the 375 competitive races he finished.

Moss was born in 1929 into a racing family. His father, Alfred, competed in the Indianapolis 500; his mother, Aileen, was English women's champion in 1936. The young Moss learned his trade during a racing boom in England after World War II.

His knowledge of racing cars was second to none and he took his profession to the extreme, experimenting and risking his own safety in the process.

Racing driver Sir Stirling Moss has died, aged 90.

He broke both legs and damaged his spine in a crash in 1960. Even worse was the accident in Goodwood, England, two years later, when he careered into a bank of earth at 160kph without a seatbelt while competing in the Formula One Glover Trophy.

It took 45 minutes to cut him from the wreckage. He suffered brain injuries, and his body's left side was partially paralysed for six months. With his eyesight and reflexes also permanently damaged, Moss quit racing.

"I knew that if I didn't get out, I'd kill myself and maybe somebody else," Moss said.

Moss then became a successful businessman, selling property and designing gadgets out of his state-of-the-art home in central London and working as a consultant to car manufacturers. He received a knighthood in 1999.

In 2010, he broke both ankles and hurt his back in a fall three floors down an elevator shaft at home.

"His body still has the same resilience to injury as it did in his racing days," a statement on his website read.

Coronavirus: British comedian Tim Brooke-Taylor of The Goodies dies from Covid-19
05:35, April 13th, 2020.

British performer Tim Brooke-Taylor, a member of comedy trio The Goodies, has died after contracting the new coronavirus. He was 79.

Brooke-Taylor's agent says he died Sunday morning (local time) "from COVID-19"

Brooke-Taylor was part of Cambridge University's Footlights revue, the breeding ground of several generations of British comic talent.

British comedian Tim Brooke-Taylor, a member of comedy trio The Goodies, has died after contracting the new coronavirus. He was 79.

He broke into radio and television comedy in the 1960s alongside future Monty Python members John Cleese and Graham Chapman.

Brooke-Taylor went on to form The Goodies with Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie.

The Goodies was a hit in New Zealand during the 1970s.

The trio specialised in slightly surreal sketches incorporating visual inventiveness, slapstick and songs. Their song Funky Gibbon even became a UK top 10 chart hit in 1975.

Their TV show, which ran throughout the 1970s, was a hit in Britain, Australia and New Zealand and developed a cult following in many other countries.

The Goodies formed part of a golden era of British television comedy in the 1960s and 70s that included Monty Python's Flying Circus and Not the Nine O'Clock News.

For more than 40 years, Brooke-Taylor was also a panelist on BBC radio's much loved comic quiz show I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue.

Goodies co-star Garden said Brooke-Taylor was "a funny, sociable, generous man who was a delight to work with. Audiences found him not only hilarious but also adorable."

"His loss at this dreadful time is particularly hard to bear," Garden said.

Just heard the devastating news of the death of Tim Brooke-Taylor. A hero for as long as I can remember, and –on a few golden occasions – a colleague and collaborator on I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. Gentle, kind, funny, wise, warm, but piercingly witty when he chose to be. So sad
— Stephen Fry (@stephenfry) April 12, 2020.

Writer-performer Stephen Fry tweeted: "Just heard the devastating news of the death of Tim Brooke-Taylor. A hero for as long as I can remember, and - on a few golden occasions - a colleague and collaborator on I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. Gentle, kind, funny, wise, warm, but piercingly witty when he chose to be. So sad."

Brooke-Taylor is survived by his wife, Christine, and two sons.

Wrestling announcer Howard Finkel dies at age 69
https://www.weau.com/content/news/Wrestling-announcer-Howard-Finkel-dies-at-age-69-569692171.html

Image

(Gray News) - Long-time wrestling announcer and WWE Hall of Famer Howard “The Fink” Finkel died at the age of 69, the company announced Thursday.

Finkel’s familiar “and NNNEEEWWW World Champion!” line followed many of the classic bouts in WWF/E since the company was formed in 1980.

“In what has already been a tough week for our @WWE family, today we lost our 1st ever employee and WWE Hall of Famer, @howardfinkel,” said Stephanie McMahon WWE’s chief branding officer, on Twitter. “Howard’s voice is iconic & recognized by generations of fans. He will be missed. #RIPHowardFinkel Thank you for everything.”

He was the WWE’s longest-serving employee and inducted in its Hall of Fame in 2009.

WWE said in its news release that, in addition to his on-screen role, Finkel was an indispensable resource inside the company’s offices “for his vast knowledge of sports-entertainment history.”

Bassist Matthew Seligman has died at the age of 64 after a battle with COVID-19.

Image

The musician is best known for his work during the ‘80s, including material with the Thompson Twins, Thomas Dolby and David Bowie.

Dolby shed light on Seligman’s dire situation two weeks ago with the first in a series of Facebook posts chronicling his friend and former bandmate's condition. Earlier today he relayed a message he’d received regarding Seligman, stating that the bassist had suffered “a catastrophic hemorrhagic stroke from which he won't recover.”

Seven hours later, Dolby confirmed Seligman's passing with a post that simply read "Matthew's gone."

Members of ALICE COOPER's Band Pay Musical Tribute To Their Fallen Friend JIMMY WEBB
April 20th, 2020.

Image
On Sunday (April 19), ALICE COOPER members Ryan Roxie, Chuck Garric, Tommy Henriksen and Glen Sobel teamed up to perform a socially distant tribute to their friend and New York City fashion icon Jimmy Webb.

Webb grew up in upstate New York and moved to New York City in 1975. He spent more than a decade and a half working at Trash And Vaudeville, which he dubbed "rock and roll heaven," before opening his own boutique, I Need More, named after a song by Iggy Pop, three years ago.

GOON SQUAD, as Roxie, Garric, Henriksen and Sobel call themselves, filmed their parts from their homes around the world and edited the tracks together for their tribute.

"I Wanna Be Your Dog", a song from Iggy Pop, was a fitting memorial to Webb, because of his close relationship with Iggy. In lieu of a big hug, this was the GOON SQUAD's way of saying farewell to their longtime friend.

In a 2013 article, Vogue called Webb the "reigning Mayor of St. Marks Place" and "punk rock's unofficial shopkeeper."

"Without a doubt, I have a dream come true life," Webb once said. "I live every moment and I taste everything in it. I taste it, I smell it, I feel it ... Dreams do come true."

ever allowed to just hang in the dressing room with Alice.”

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un rumored to be dead

https://nypost.com/2020/04/25/north-korean-dictator-kim-jong-un-rumored-to-be-dead/

Kim Jong Un is rumored to be dead, according to a Hong Kong broadcast network, while a Japanese magazine is reporting that North Korea’s rocket man is in a “vegetative state” after he underwent heart surgery earlier this month.

A vice director of HKSTV Hong Kong Satellite Television, a Beijing-backed broadcast network in Hong Kong, claimed that Kim was dead, citing a “very solid source.” Her post on the Chinese messaging app Weibo has been shared widely on social media, according to a report in the International Business Times.

Other unconfirmed reports, attributed to senior party sources in Beijing, said an operation to insert a stent went wrong because the surgeon’s hands were shaking so badly.

I pity the surgeons and the medical staff that took care of him.
They're going to be shot, that's a sure thing in a regime like that !
:| :| :|

Who's gonna cry his death ?
Oh, yeah, the whole NK and Trump, so almost nobody
