Don Imus, Legendary 'Imus in the Morning' Host, Dies at 79

Image

Radio personality Don Imus, whose insult humor and savage comedy catapulted him to a long-lasting and controversial radio career, has died at 79. His three-hour radio program, Imus in the Morning, was widely popular, especially with the over 25-male demographic.

Imus passed away on Friday morning at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in College Station, Texas, after being hospitalized on Christmas Eve, a representative said. The cause of death was not given.

I used to listen to the “I-Man” a lot in my office at work in the ‘90’s until I gained an office mate who called me out on some lesbian humor on it. She was lesbian and she was right. His show wasn’t appropriate for the workplace. It seems like he never really recovered from his comment about a college women’s championship basketball team when he referred to them as “nappy headed hoes”. He crossed a few lines with his humor (remind you of anybody?) but I’ll always remember him and his show fondly. He did a lot of outstanding charitable work as well.

The Rutles were the best "near" Beatles band.
I even used "Number One" as a start for a Medley thinking that folks would confuse it with "Twist and Shout" and they did.
There were lots of tunes to confuse die-hard Beatles fans, and they were very well done.
The two albums they did was something great.
Great tunes with a great sense of humor.
Mr. Innes was a great composer and used his talent to make us smile.
RIP Mr. Innes.

RIP Neil Innes

I had the pleasure to chat with him in 1998 at a "Beatlfest."
He was doing an online chat. In between questions I said,
"There should be a Bonzofest." Neil replied," I thought this
was one." LOL! Very friendly and nice and funny!

Really sad. It seems like he retired and then found out a couple years later that he had brain cancer.

I have the video that covers Rush finally making it to Helsinki. Neil rides the motorcycle to Stockholm harbor. Gets on boat. Rides off at Helsinki. When they did play Helsinki, a third of the previous crowd at Stockholm was either gone or saw both concerts.

Man o Man! Neil Pert was my definitive drummer hero at 14 yrs. Rush was THE band in Canada in the 70's. RIP a true rock musician.
