One of rock's most acclaimed filmmakers, Don't Look Back and Monterey Pop director D.A. Pennebaker, died Thursday night of natural causes at the age of 94.

His 1967 movie Don't Look Back chronicled Bob Dylan's 1965 U.K. tour, which took place just before the singer made his controversial shift away from folk to electric guitar-based rock at the Newport Folk Festival. The film also features one of the earliest and most famous music videos, the cue card-laden "Subterranean Homesick Blues."

The following year, Pennebaker released Monterey Pop, documenting 1967's Monterey Pop Festival, which featured career-defining performances from Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and the Who.

In addition to those acclaimed documentaries, Pennebaker also directed the 1973 David Bowie concert film Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, Depeche Mode's 1989 road film 101 and 2000's Down From the Mountain, which focused on the musicians who performed the songs for the 2000 Coen Brothers film O Brother, Where Art Thou?.

As noted by Variety, Pennebaker's career went far beyond rock music, to include the 1993 Bill Clinton campaign documentary The War Room, 2002's Elaine Stritch at Liberty and 1977's Energy War, among many others.

One of my friends is a true blue dyed in the wool hardcore D.A. Pennebaker fan(atic),
he's a shattered man, fell off the wagon when he heard of Donn's demise,
fourteen years sober.....

He's experiencing a reverse Yo Mama moment right now,
his mother has moved in with him.....

He'll be fine now that he's getting some good ol' 20th century motherin'.....

Jeffrey Epstein has died by suicide

New York (CNN)Jailed multimillionaire financier and accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein has died by suicide, according to two law enforcement sources.

He was taken from New York's Metropolitan Correctional Center on Saturday morning in cardiac arrest and died at an area hospital, the sources told CNN.

Epstein, 66, had been jailed since early July, when he pleaded not guilty to charges by New York federal prosecutors after an indictment accused him of sex trafficking dozens of underage girls, some as young as 14 years old.

News of Epstein's death comes a day after hundreds of pages of court documents were unsealed in New York federal court, alleging new details of sexual abuse claims against Epstein and several associates.

Anyone who has ever spent a day in jail knows this doesn't happen unless they allow it to. Someone as high profile as this scum bag would be on lock down away from the general population. This would typically consist of 23 hours in a cell with possibly an hour of supervised recreation. I once did a small stint for habitually driving without a license and was placed on mandatory lock down, I guess to make a point. I couldn't even write with the rubber pen I was given without being watched. One night I was having trouble sleeping under the charming glow of fluorescent lights that never turn off. I decided to stand up and walk to the cell door and back a few times, didn't make it back and forth twice before someone was beating on the door telling me to get my ass back in the bed. My point here is how the hell can someone they know is a suicide risk, and so high profile, ever get the time to rig up a noose type device without being noticed. Much less use the thing successfully. I smell a rat.
So now nothing will come of this, and all the links to other powerful individuals involved in these activities will crumble away.

It happened pretty fast. He suddenly pulled out a shank, and stabbed himself in the back, six times. No one had time to do anything.

I felt a bit guilty about it it, too - but it had to be said.
