I've never been too big a fan of traditional poetry. It always seemed poignant...

Or maybe I'm just jealous because I can't write any...

But I've written some abstract poetry.

Here's a link to one of my works, it's too big for this page.

Obviously I am not a great poet, so I will quote one of my favorites by Nin Andrews:

Advice about Pussy Poems

Please be advised. You should not write pussy poems. Ever. They are cliché. Even if they have not been done like love and loss poems. That’s why, when you wrote in your love poem, That night the pussy was floating above me on pink wings, I whited her out. You seem to have mistaken the pussy for an angel. Something she can never be. Good thing. Imagine what would happen if pussies become as popular as angels? You’d see them everywhere, embossed and glowing—on greeting cards, Christmas trees, book jackets, mantelpieces---people would pray to them for luck or mercy. Pussies would filter into our language so quickly every poet would write at least one pussy poem. Allen Ginsberg said that whoever controls the language, controls the race. Pussies should not be given control! Nothing short of disaster would follow. Pussies would determine the path of the thunderbolts and make the gullies for the rain. Pussies would strip the world of its worldliness. In hands such as yours pussies might even lose their pussiness. There would be no past or tomorrow. Alas. But of course, you need not worry. Why? Because most don’t know what a pussy is. Like you, my dear. Some imagine she flies, when in fact the pussy sucks men out of the air, one at a time. No one notices the missing, and the missing notice no one. Take your best friend, Joe, for example. He’s been gone for weeks. Have you noticed? How he’s at peace forever, like a bee in clover. Like a tree frog in a soft July rain. And the pussy, too, now that she’s found Joe. Now that there are as many hours in her days as eggs in a supermarket. Not even a poet can say how she feels inside.

Nin Andrews is the author of several books including The Book of Orgasms and Why They Grow Wings.

ONE GOOD LIFE

As i get older and remember my thoughts,
I'll think of the things i never forgot.
All the things that brought me pleasure,
My thoughts alone are my only treasure.
A world in my head that is only mine,
Even the thought of it is simply devine.
Both happy and sad they are all there,
Though now i look back not needing to care.
They are all mine, for now and forever,
And no one can take them not now, not ever.
Into this world i often escape,
Always different as i mould, as i shape.

A parrallel world ruled by me,
Where others may look but cannot see.
I have no concern for others' thoughts,
Someone else's...i need not.
When inside here i am so free,
In awe of a world exlcusive to me.
Even the thought of it makes me warm inside,
And nothing can touch it...not time...not tide

Technological Advancement

Mourn did the people at the earth's wake,
As nothing was left for the people to take.
Sad was the priest who carried it out,
With his flock not knowing what this was about.
Some did cry though few with feeling,
It was just too late for praying and kneeling.
Where was the future and what did it hold,
Was it this barren landscape, unyielding so cold.
People recoiled on seeing their thoughts,
But they tried to buy something that couldn't be bought.
A world in mourning for their only true friend,
A true friend to oblivion this people did send.

A fool's prayer
There's a pleasure, sure, in being mad, which none but madmen know.

Oh Moon, mother of lunatics, hear my prayer,
Make me as mad as the Mad March Hare
Lend me the grin of the Cheshire Cat
and the grace to wear a runcible hat
Please let me live my horoscope
and eat some homeopathic soap
Drop pennies into wishing wells
and feed zoo lions peanut shells
Preach peace to Christian folk and tell 'em
Si vis pacem, para bellum!
Make me the head of a brand new sect:
Old Uncle Alfred's few elect.
Make me, Mother, a schizophrene
with no more brain than a soup tureen
Not an ape or some other dear creature of sense
But a jolly old Homo Sapiens

-John O'Mill

Alternate lyrics to "Kick out the Jams" by the MC5
As performed by my band Rare Goat

Well I'm gonna rock the stink outta my socks
And I'm movin'
Well we got the juice, put your balls in a noose
So get groovin'
We're the long hard band you can hold in your hand
Shake us Shake us Shake us up all over the land
We got a message to send
When we Kick out the Jams, yeah
Kick out the Jams, we gonna Kick out the Jams

We roll into town, ain't no messin' around
So get rockin'
Plug in our amps and we fill up our pants
With the music
Put our shit through the speakers and into the sky
Bouncin' off the planets, then we're gonna try
To rock you again
When we Kick out the Jams, yeah
Kick out the Jams, WOWWWWWW!!!

(shitty guitar solo)
(mysterious soft>loud portion follows)

Now we're all done and we wipe off the gun
Leave you shakin'
Turn off our amps and we load up the van
Gonna make it
Rock and roll playin' is a hard-ass job
As we drive away, you cry and you sob
But we'll be back here again
When we Kick out the Jams, yeah
Kick out the Jams, we gonna Kick out the Jams

-Feets

Here's a short three parter that I worked on for around five minutes at the most.

I

And in the afternoon,
I like to sit and watch my neighbours have sex,
Through the hole in my wall,
The whole of it all.

II

Witches are afraid of chupacabras,
Like a picnic bench with a kid pissing on it,
I must stress the bench is demon posessed,
When it spins round and splinters the kid falls off and hurts his back,
Now he's 52 and he has a problem.

III

I don't read the news,
Because the fun just never ends,
Someone killed some Jews,
Someone got the bends,
And all the fatastic trends,
New fads,
A new dad,
And a slipshod recount of the stocks you took last week,
Reveal the knife in your chest and you go to sleep.

And if you thought any of that meant anything then you're an idiot.

A poem I wrote for my children that eventually ended up in a song.

Reflection

When you've made the same mistakes that I have made
Will you learn what I have learned?

When you try to change the world as I have tried
Will you change as I have changed?

When you find the pain of love as I have found
Will you lose what I have lost?

When you know it's not what was but what is now
Will you yearn for what will be?

Ancient Music

Winter is icummen in,
Lhude sing Goddamm.
Raineth drop and staineth slop,
And how the wind doth ramm!
Sing: Goddamm.

Skiddeth bus and sloppeth us,
An ague hath my ham.
Freezeth river, turneth liver,
Damn you, sing: Goddamm.

Goddamm, Goddamm, 'tis why I am, Goddamm,
So 'gainst the winter's balm.

Sing goddamm, damm, sing Goddamm.
Sing goddamm, sing goddamm, DAMM.

Ezra Pound
