I just got a new album released on Chimera Music (Sean Lennon's label) that sounds like a mix of the Beatles and The Residents! I have now read that BEANPOLE was one of the last "planned" Prawn Song label albums made by Les Claypool and some friends.....and MAMMOTH records dropped the Prawn Song label and Les Claypool in general after hearing this album!
I HAVE to say Sean has a great ear for "fun" music ….and BEANPOLE has a bit of a taste of "We're Only In It For The Money" in it's use of twisted vocals and tunefulness . The "concept" here seems to be that BEANPOLE is a band of inbred mutant hillbillies....but it does seem to have the Residents/Beatles mix down just right also. Along the way in the liner notes traces of biblical writings make the case that if you believe the bible strictly, we are all inbred with Adam and Eve having no one else to breed with (in a nut shell..). So I guess we are all members of BEANPOLE? Ha! Also, the name "beanpole" may relate to the band's "straight" one-line family tree.
All in all....I almost missed this great mess of an album, and I wanted you all out there to check it out. It's just in time for Pumpkin Pickin' Time (Halloween) ,....and I'd bet Frank would have liked it. You might too? Search this one out.
