40 years ago marks the first year, since Freak Out!, Zappa would not produce (meaning released) an album, something rare during his prolific career. I figure this was the year he toured extensively. I just thought I would point that out and so I did.

Cheers. :smurf:

Well, after reading about ZINY, I learned it was originally released in 1977, but quickly withdrawn.

Not mentioning the infamous Läther. That would be Zappa's release for 1977.

In 1977 FZ was in a legal battle with his record company Warner Brothers and he wanted out of his contract.
ZINY was withdrawn due to Punky's Whips (FZ had a release note from Punky Meadows and WB did not, FZ recorddeal stated that WB would release his albums no questions asked, wanting to remove a song from the album constituted breach of contract according to FZ).
FZ owed WB 3 more albums (SD, ST and OF) and delivered them, those albums were rejected and FZ reassembled the recordings into Lather (according to Biffy The Elephant Shrew.

1980 was mostly touring and of course the recording sessions for YAWYI in his new studio.

I dont know abiout 1990, maybe preparing the umpteenth re-re-release of his back-catalog as well as new albums?
