What's going on with the Zappa house now and the UMRK/Vault?
It is just Diva living there?

Hope the family keep it, not that it has anything to do with me but I recently came across George Duke's home on some house clearance site. I found it quite unpleasant to see George and his wife's personal stuff on show just as they left it. His shirts, her perfume and so on. Very tasteless of George's family. I can understand the home being sold but putting the contents up for sale like that felt wrong. Maybe I'm being too sensitive, shit we all die and leave a lot of stuff behind. Where I come from, besides some special items going to friends and family most of it ends up in the tip or charity shop.
I guess the rich do it differently. I can't see anyone bidding on my shirts, still I guess George Duke's used soap bar might have value. Still find it all rather odd.

I guess it's only a matter of time before Zappa HQ is sold off - it must be worth a lot, siblings and their partners and all that :-(
Like I say, none of my business but like so many of us, it would be a dream to visit UMRK/Vault. George Duke's Le Gonks West studio was a special place but alas that's gone now. That Euphonics desk was in the sale too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7vr9G9FReI

I suppose it depends on a lot of things - what is the condition of the house and the items, who is left to clear the house and how far does he live. Diva lives there, maybe somebody else will move in...

I remember having seen an advertisement not long ago where the house was for sale for 6,5 mio. $ or so.

Wasn't the UMRK-Studio modernized and operated by some other people lately?

You all know what happens when a house is inherited by the kids, right?
Anyway, the property is worth a mint, and I doubt anyone in exclusive Laurel Canyon wants some museum there, if it was even legal to do so (doubtful). Sell it and buy a 5 story building in a business district and keep the Zappa Factory going for another 500 years. And maybe we can actually visit.

I'm not sure about any inheritance taxes in the US - I hope Diva doesn't have to sell...

I'm sure the house is in the Trust, so there's really no inheritance. Before Gail died, I guess she assigned Ahmet as the successor trustee.

Most likely Gail also created a mechanism where they all have some say in what happens. Fortunately they seem to get along...

Recent (10/2015) Google-Streeview pictures show some contruction work and/or major cleaning-up probably going on at the house.

That doesn't make sense, but whatever. It's bad form to discuss these type of things!
Moon stated awhile back she is uninterested in the business, would sell it all off if it was up to her.

there is a kickstarter projekt from alex winter (a filmmaker doing documentaries). he wil do a documentation about frank: Who the F*@% is Frank Zappa?

Quote:
I’m an actor / director, and in the last few years I’ve made two other documentaries about cultural influencers; Downloaded (about Napster) and Deep Web (about the hidden Internet).
I’ve been a big fan of Frank Zappa’s music my whole life, but it took some time to realize that in addition to being a singular artist, he’s flat-out one of the most brilliant, hilarious, wild and fascinating renaissance men of the century.

Shortly before she died, his widow Gail gave me unprecedented access to Frank’s life (and Vault), and her blessing to make the first all-access doc about Frank — a one-of-a-kind honor. For this project, I’ll be interviewing everyone I can who had any kind of connection to Frank, and painstakingly going through the Vault to preserve and archive the stuff I think tells Frank’s untold story best.

so please support this project

How hilarious would it be if Andre C. won the lottery and bought the house?

I was cruising around various real estate sites and the estimated value of the property ranged from about 2.7 million to 5.2 million. For the curious, Frank bought the house in 1968 for $74,000.00. Seven beds/six baths/6,759 square feet on 0.56 acres.

Property values have gone up a lot but there were hundreds of thousands of dollars spent remodeling that place. FZ was definitely in the upper 1% of wealth in the US.

FZ was quite successful monetarily , he was proud of it and any one should be.

One can therefore conclude that a top 1% income-earning 35 year old should have $1,520,000 in net worth to coincide with her $380,0000 a year income if she wants to be in the top 1% net worth echelon. To be clear, the $3.42 million/$380K ratio should be considered the minimum combo for a 35 year old.
he was much above this at the time of his death.

When I saw this pic and heard the house had been sold, I was struck by a deep feeling of sorrow and loss all over again. I have so many happy memories of going up to that house to record and hang out. It seems so final, now, more than ever. Damn, I miss you Frank. Arthur Barrow, Aug 23rd 2016
