I was listening to Waka Jawaka today and I wondered..... Big Swifty and Waka were performed live, but were It Might Be A One Shot Deal or Your Mouth? Then I wondered how many songs that Frank never played in concert. I looked for the Zappabase and couldn't find it, so I was wondering if you can post in here which ones that Frank (not ZPZ or any other tribute/cover band) never played. I would guess the song 50/50 from Overnite, I've never heard that on a recording, but I might be wrong.

There are, however, many songs never recorded in the studio. Only played live.

The basic riff was used often to solo over (see The Black Page on YCDTOSA 5) en Vai's solo is for a live performance too.
So portions of that song are live.

How about Evelyn, A Modified Dog?

A part of Dio Fa was played as a tape during the Yellow Shark concerts, I believe...

Sleep Dirt was done in the studio, and later radically changed. FZ worked on it during sound checks, but never played it in a show. Dweezil's playing it (the electric version) on his current tour.

Sleep Dirt was played live several times during the fall 1975 tour: Santa Barbara, Sept 27, Vancouver, Oct 1, Seattle, Oct 4 & Waterbury Oct 29.

It was part of a three stage composition: Sleep Dirt played as originally composed, morphing into Sleep Dirt against the Black Napkins vamp, morphing into Black Napkins.

Fifty-Fifty

Tours on which song is known to have been performed (main source: FZShows, v. 7.1)

February-May, 1973 (MOI)—known performances: 13
June-July, 1973 (MOI Pacific Tour)—known performances: 7
December, 1978 (rehearsals)—known performances: 1

As I recall, these are instrumental renditions.

Which is the cool thing about them!

(Not to mention the tunes he pieced together from live stuff... wasn't that called Xenochrony or something like that?!)
