Newbie here. Long time fan. Came across my ticket stub from show in Reno NV in 1981. I searched this sight and found attendance numbers but would love to see a set list. I'm in newbie prison for 8 more posts so I can't get PM. Any info on this show would be much appreciated.

Try Setlist FM.
Disco Boy may be able to chime in with attendance info.

Thanks Cozy. Setlist FM doesn't have the date listed. It was 10-6-81. Can you steer me somewhere for possible recording of show?

That date is not in the Zappateers catalogue, but it does have the following day in Las Vegas.

Thanks polydigm. I looked and saw that as well. I guess it's one of those shows that there just isn't going to be much on.

Everyone was being so nice and now this. :? Came down to Reno from Lake Tahoe (where there is a lot of money and only sharts in the pants) to see Frank. Population of Reno at the time was approx 100,000 so 2.2% of that showed up. Steve Vai was a youngster and a good time was had by all...

I’ve never thought that about Reno. I always group Reno and Tahoe together as desirable tourist destinations for Northern Californians and many others. I won’t be recommending you Plook, for any positions with the Reno/Tahoe Visitors Bureau. :P

Thanks for the hat tip plook!

But I don't have more info than what can be found at zappateers...

Since you were looking for a setlist... and knowing there was more consistency that year in setlists...
This page of shows and setlists demonstrates...
there were two 'preferred' setlists for this leg. Every night would have its variations, solos, etc. but nevertheless a pattern can be seen.
Typically, Frank would alternate between one and the other setlist, again with the variations that were common for that year and season. Frank would also be gearing up for the Halloween show that he would have known would be filmed. And you can get the dvd for that called The Torture Never Stops at the zappa.com site. So you can get and view and LISTEN to a reasonable facsimile of the show you saw 37+ years ago. Hotcha!

Informed by the typical setlists for that season and listening to those shows a few times now, I will GUESS that the Reno show had a setlist starting with Chunga's Revenge... simply because the one the following night starts with Black Napkins, and does the You Are What You Is grouping and run...

So my somehat educated guess would place it more like the 10-9 early Tucson, AZ show: Chunga's Revenge, Montana, Easy Meat, Society Pages, I'm A Beautiful Guy, Beauty Knows No Pain, Charlie's Enormous Mouth, Fine Girl, Teenage Wind, Harder Than Your Husband, Bamboozled By Love, Sinister Footwear, Stevie's Spanking, Cocaine Decisions, Nig Biz, Goblin Girl, The Black Page, Dancin' Fool, Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?
with likely end of show variations like Bobby Brown, City of Tiny Lights, Strictly Genteel, Torture

hope that helps, or perhaps jogs your memory :)

Really appreciate the info. Your educated guess makes total sense. I think I will pick up the Halloween show DVD so thanks for that as well.

Pretty lit up that night making bad cocaine decisions and what not. If I hadn't saved my ticket stub I'd be questioning if I really was there....
