I think they should have a WWE Hologram match:
Zappa vs Dio. Fight to the death!

How much would you fellows pay for that? No, wait. Don't tell me.

She's Gone and Sara Smile are the only two I like, anyway.

Daryl Hall performed Sara Smile at a grand piano and went off on a vocal solo at that end that reminded me of a FZ Guitar solo, just meandering all over...totally freaking awesome.... 8)

I was browsing at Barnes and Noble recently and leafed through a new biography by Oates (or was it Hall?). Anyways, there was a photo of H&O hanging out backstage with FZ at the Roxy (late ‘70’s I would guess). Frank had a big smile on his face and really seemed to be enjoying the moment. It’s not a scene I would have imagined. Oates (or was it Hall) said that Frank told them they should have their own tv show.

If I was a betting man I would guess this occurred either on May 23 1977 when Todd was doing Back to the Bars, that night was celebrity heavy and H&O performed with Todd as well as Spencer Davis, Rick Derringer, and Stevie Nicks.

Second possibility is Nov 3 or 4 1979 when they played there and introduced a young unheard of guitarist who blew everyone's minds...GE Smith.

How many of these "musicians" do you think would be on this hologram tour if they could make as much money or draw as much attention doing something original, artistic, fresh and dignified? Is FZ just another product to you? Watch Eat That Document. The man put himself out on the line constantly. He was more than just product.
Your entirely too naive and preposterous perspective on this continues to astound me.

It is a plain fact that accomplished composers are few and far between, while accomplished musicians are legion in comparison. There's a kind of natural balance to this. If all musicians were only original composers only wanting to play their own music the only musical phenomenon in existence would be a ridiculous number of original solo acts.

I already only like a handful of composers amongst the ones that do end up being taken seriously and they're nearly all dead, so where does that leave me? If a composer writes a piece of music for a 96 piece orchestra, he has to find 96 musicians willing to play his music. Where the hell would music be without that?

Beethoven, when he was developing musical ideas couldn't get them to willing musicians quick enough to hear the result. So much so that the ink was still wet and ended up quite smudged on much of his scores and parts. If there were no Mothers, if there were no, what became, alumni, there would be no Frank Zappa.

You're basically insulting every member of an entire worthy profession without whom there would be no music worth speaking of.

I am insulting a small and very specific group. The modern day rock tribute band people. I'm not insulting every musician who plays someone else's compositions. That would be preposterous. Cover songs can be great! Leeching off one artist to the point where it's your career is another thing. A bit pathetic. Some of these xerox machines you call musicians even think they are on the same level as the artist whose life's work they excavate. Some try to look like the original artist. It's creepy. An imitation world. Is that what you want?

I'm not particularly naive about the situation. Yet you called me naive AND preposterous. I know some of these types of guys personally. I hope you'll take back the part about naive and preposterous. You read more into it than I was saying. It's a very specific group that I am insulting. More importantly- they insulted me first. This whole industry of tribute bands insults my intelligence. It also drives nails into the coffin of the music business as we know it today. Some manager/pr clown telling some eager and creative kids, "no one wants original music anymore. How about if you guys become a Zeppelin cover band? I'll book you onto cruises where the yups can dance to all those songs they used to like back in their day when the bands were actually creating their own music".

Please assure me you are following all of this, Poly. It's not preposterous at all, and FZ has spoken plainly and clearly of nostalgia if you want a second opinion.

I couldn't give a shit about the hologram one way or the other and if I went to one of those concerts it would be because I enjoy FZ's music played live, no other reason. Is it nostalgia to enjoy and want to hear Beethoven's music played live? His music was quite elaborate and any musician playing his music has to specialise in it to a significant degree to be able to perform it creditably and the same applies to FZ. I don't want to hear anyone performing FZ's music half heartedly or poorly. FZ said it was all the same to him, whatever the genre of music and that's how I feel about it too. I just don't get why you single out certain musicians who have chosen to specialise in certain composers.
