I have to say that I'm disappointed in Adrian Belew's response. He seems an overly sensitive guy to me. There is a small group of very vocal FZ fans who are actually an insignificant percentage of the total number of FZ fans and who do not speak for the majority. Without a properly handled statistical survey of a significant percentage of FZ fans taken at random, this is all speculation.

Personally, the hologram idea doesn't bother me at all. If that show comes to Adelaide I'll go.

Well, for me it's the fact that according to what I have read (mind you...only what I have read) some guy...not the real Frank of course...gets scanned and then the image of Frank is overlaid on top of that to create the presentation of Frank Zappa. To me, no matter how good an imitation the whoever-the-fuck guy does, gesture and body language-wise, I myself would know in reality it simply is not Frank being duplicated in a hologram, just an impersonator with the image of Frank overlaid...which for me at least...kinda kills the whole thing. Frank was real...an imitation quite simply cannot enter into duplicating his essence fully in my opinion. If others want...or will enjoy that...then hey...enjoy that. Tempting though it would be to see the technology in action I know that I, at least, would know it just ain't the real Frank at it's core and sadly can't be, but rather more like a techno put-on...so ergo...not really worth what I assume will likely be charged to make the whole thing a profitable enterprise. If some Zappa fans want to see it...cool...if other Zappa fans want to avoid it...equally cool. Nothing wrong with either attitude the way I see it. Frank was about individuality so...to each their own...as it should be. Just one fucker's Opinion

It interests me as much as having someone onstage dressed as FZ, which is to say not at all.

The cost of the hologram production is significant and will have to be recovered in the ticket pricing. It's not something I'm inclined to pay more for.

I mean no disrespect to those who like the idea. It's just not for me.

Try reading this fucking thread, Plook. jesus christ.

What does a hologram have to do with music? FZ was about the music, if you haven't figured that out. What musical purpose does a hologram fulfill? This hologram exists to make money off rubes. Try watching Eat That Question and listen to all of the things FZ says. There's at least a few clear quotes in there which represent his feelings about mindless consumer fanboys and sleazy sales executives.

How many of these "musicians" do you think would be on this hologram tour if they could make as much money or draw as much attention doing something original, artistic, fresh and dignified? Is FZ just another product to you? Watch Eat That Document. The man put himself out on the line constantly. He was more than just product.

Let these "musicians" get real jobs. Fuck 'em. Carting around holograms of dead men to make a buck. Ick. There's something parasitic about it. If you don't see that it's because you don't want to see it. What kind of precedent are you setting for your grandkids by supporting this stuff? You're leaving behind a world where it's safe for Hall And Oates to charge 400 dollars for a concert ticket. A world where FZ is a hologram. When FZ was alive concert tickets were less than twice the amount of an album.

Watch Eat That Document again. FZ was trying to tell you something about the music business. About mindless fanboys. About America. About consumerism. About life.

Zappa vs Dio. Fight to the death!

How much would you fellows pay for that? No, wait. Don't tell me.

Your entirely too naive and preposterous perspective on this continues to astound me.

It is a plain fact that accomplished composers are few and far between, while accomplished musicians are legion in comparison. There's a kind of natural balance to this. If all musicians were only original composers only wanting to play their own music the only musical phenomenon in existence would be a ridiculous number of original solo acts.

I already only like a handful of composers amongst the ones that do end up being taken seriously and they're nearly all dead, so where does that leave me? If a composer writes a piece of music for a 96 piece orchestra, he has to find 96 musicians willing to play his music. Where the hell would music be without that?

Beethoven, when he was developing musical ideas couldn't get them to willing musicians quick enough to hear the result. So much so that the ink was still wet and ended up quite smudged on much of his scores and parts. If there were no Mothers, if there were no, what became, alumni, there would be no Frank Zappa.

You're basically insulting every member of an entire worthy profession without whom there would be no music worth speaking of.
